The ongoing legal saga between Activision and former Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vincent Zampella continues to bring all sorts of once-secret documents to light. We already learned that Bungie’s 2010 contract with Activision guarantees the delivery of four “sci-fantasy” shooter games, called Destiny. But what other details are hiding in that 27-page contract?
The court case between Activision and developers Jason West and Vincent Zampella has brought all kinds of ugliness to light. But filings for the case have also made the details of the April, 2010 contract between Bungie and Activision a matter of public record, revealing Bungie’s upcoming game development plans.
A couple of months back, we broke the story of ‘Destiny’, the game reported to be the new IP Bungie is working on for Activision. Now, as reported by Bungie fansite HBO, new evidence has surfaced supporting that claim.
Rumoured for more than a month, Bungie’s next project is an MMO, the developer confirmed today at GDC 2011. But David Aldridge, the studio’s lead network engineer, said it is not “WoW in space”, referencing earlier reports of the project. Aldridge did not give any other details, such as a title, but we’ve been told it’s to be called “Destiny”, among other details. [IGN]
Yesterday we broke the story that, according to an anonymous source, Bungie was currently working on ‘Destiny’, an MMO with shooter elements. The source also claimed that he, along with roughly 30 other contractors were let go with little notice by Bungie – a claim that Bungie has denied. We’ve now been in contact with another verified source who has further elaborated on Bungie’s treatment of contractors and provided more details.
An anonymous source, who claims to have recently been let go by Bungie, has suggested their latest game – named ‘Destiny’ and codenamed ‘Tiger’ – mixes FPS elements into an MMO with a Sci-Fi setting. According to the source, he and roughly 30 other contractors were let go yesterday citing “budgetary concerns” from their “publisher”. The game is set to be published by Activision Blizzard. Bungie has updated their site denying their publisher asked them to let go of any staff.
