One could liken a video game boss fight to a pair of actors on a stage engaged in a heated argument, trading overblown barbs instead of blows. In Devil May Cry 4, Dante and Angus take that comparison and run with it.
A trailer for Capcom’s latest instalment of the Devil May Cry series has leaked online. It shows off Dante’s controversial new look, as well as an old man in a suit ranting about terrorists.
No, this story isn’t going where you think it’s going. It’s actually going somewhere sensible, somewhere more video game developers – and artists in particular – should go.
Check out the latest batch of screenshots for the upcoming Devil May Cry reboot. Fans might well be disappointed with the stylistic ditching of Dante’s iconic white hair (which actually does appear in his Devil Trigger mode), but there’s no denying that these images scream style.
And, surprise surprise, it’s for a HD anthology, in this case the re-releases of the first three Devil May Cry games.
I’ve never as besotted as others are with Devil May Cry’s Dante. He looks like Carmen Sandiego-turned-serial-killer and has all the action hero swagger of a male hairdresser. So news certain fans of the series have made death threats to developers Ninja Theory over the character’s new appearance are… well, either disconcerting or hilarious. Probably both.
With DMC: Devil May Cry, the iconic Capcom series has been shipped off to Westerners to develop. The game is being handled by Ninja Theory, the folks behind Heavenly Sword.
Capcom’s looking to make both sorts of Devil May Cry fan happy in the coming months. They’ve got the re-envisioned DMC Devil May Cry update to their demon-hunting franchise releasing at some undetermined future date. That game sticks to the series’ guns-and-swords play stle, even if it looks radically different. And traditionalists will get the white-haired Dante they love in newly re-mastered form in the Devil May Cry HD Collection, which collects the first three games of the series’ original iteration. Capcom’s just announced that the up-rezzed collection will be hitting both Europe and North America on April 3rd, 2012. You’ve got to think that DMC will hit later next year with the HD collection as a lead-in, right?
