I swear, Battlefield fans have to be the unhappiest people on Earth.
It came in stealthily, like a Navy SEAL on a night mission. And now Battlefield 3: Aftershock ‘s been dishonorably discharged after seemingly falling below EA’s expectations.
Those who like to complain about the annual Spike Video Game Awards, and yes, we’ve heard there are one or two of you, you’re missing the point. Don’t complain about the Spikes. Just forget all about them. And concentrate on the Interactive Achievement Awards instead!
At D.I.C.E. 2012, Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard just showed an amazing highlight reel of mods the studio built into The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim during a week-long “game jam” after the game’s release. Features like mounted combat, a lycanthropy skill tree, and one enormous mudcrab, the width of the horizon, were all shown. And that was the tip of the iceberg.
Anyone who’s been watching EA knows that the publisher’s going to be tethering portable spin-offs to its big releases. Last year’s Dead Space game for iOS and Android proved such games could be great and yesterday we saw the debut of Mass Effect Infiltrator. This sector’s a big deal for EA.
Over the past week, a ton of innocent Battlefield 3 gamers have been wrongly banned from the game, the result of a hack movement protesting the use of (ahem) anti-cheat software.
The people at the game-hacking site Artificial Aiming can’t stand the anti-cheat service Punkbuster. One of their members is going on the offensive today — aggressively.
The first time I heard “I’m getting my shit pushed in!” during a multiplayer match of Battlefield 3 was from the mouth of an acquaintance in Party chat. I assumed he and his friends were laughing at how ridiculous it sounded, because robbed of context it did sound pretty funny.
