Donkey Kong Country 2 Inspires Bearded Man Rap

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 3:00 PM on October 15, 2008

Don't remember it being that hard myself, but then, if this was about how easy it was to beat Donky Cuong Country 2 it wouldn't have the same ring to it.

Donkey Kong + Jenga = Awesome?

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 10:20 AM on August 13, 2008

In what we hope turns out to be better than the Jenga video game for the Wii and Nintendo DS, board gamer USAopoly is merging the tower climbing fun of Donkey Kong with the tower disassembling kicks of Jenga with Donkey Kong Jenga. The manufacturer guarantees "edge-of-your-seat excitement" — so did Atari's games — with two ways to play, the traditional Jenga style or by climbing the girders with your "Mario mover" to save Pauline from the beast.

It won't be released until late September, but it's never too early to put in your pre-orders.

Donkey Kong Jenga... why didn't anyone think of it before?

A Moving Donkey Kong Diorama Made Of Lego

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 11:20 PM on August 11, 2008

Headline captures the spirit of the piece. Mr. Dan Kressin, Lego builder, built himself this large, largely impressive Donkey Kong piece. Which has throwing barrels, a jumping Mario and even the damn intro music. Some may criticise the loud, loud mechanics involved, but really, they're not grasping the fact this is a moving Donkey Kong diorama made entirely of Lego.

Make Your Nerdy House A Nerdy Home With Mario, Donkey Kong Decals

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 7:40 AM on June 13, 2008

Maker of high quality wall decals Blik has partnered with Nintendo to bring adhesive fun into the lives of kids, adult adolescents and good ol' regular adolescents everywhere with a new trio of officially licensed decorative stickers. Want to make your home office have a Donkey Kong inspired backdrop? You can! Blik is also offering premium decal sets based on Super Mario Bros. and New Super Mario Bros., transforming your den or bedroom into a magical Mushroom Kingdom wonderland—while pissing off your wife!

At $AU 80.08, they aren't on the cheap side, but as I always say, you can't skimp on quality when it comes to wall stickers based on classic Nintendo characters. If you're looking for something less pricey, perhaps the Blik Space Invaders decals (only $AU 48.05!) will scratch that video game sticker itch.

A Donkey Kong Jesus Fit For Christina Aguilera Spawn

Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 2:00 PM on March 18, 2008

This isn't just some regular old Donkey-Kong-as-Jesus painting. Oh, no. It's much more. Dubbed "The Last Supper" and painted by artist Misha, the piece was originally shown at the 2006 I Am 8-Bit show. Hang on, like I said, there's more! The painting is apparently now hanging in Christina Aguilera's baby nursery. If that wasn't enough (it's not), Kotaku's Associate Editor Flynn De Marco has a Misha original tattooed on his bodice. There, all done!

Here was have a look at Mario, Link and Donkey Kong over the years. Do yourself a favour, ignore that some of them are out of order! It'll ruin the effect.

Video Games Reincarnated as Board Games

Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 12:40 AM on January 31, 2008

pic34942_md.jpg Some people like video games. Some people like board games. Some people like both. For those, there's the video game board game adaptation. Some of these have been more successful than others in bringing the spirit of the game to the tabletop. Others were simply churned out for a quick buck. Blog Yehuda points out:

The bad news is that many of these games are pretty much now loss leaders to get people to buy into the video game with little originality or creativity. Witness the large number of new and useless CCGs based on recent video games, included in the packaging or given away at conventions.
The site has done an admirable job of noting the adaptations. Swing by and check it out. I remember having the Centipede and the Donkey Kong board games.

Monster Truck Driver Sinks To New Low In Donkey Kong Suit

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 10:57 AM on December 11, 2007

donkey_kong_monster_driver.jpgAs fans of the monster truck arts are well aware, the Donkey Kong Monster Jam truck made its debut in Minnesota this past weekend. It made loud sounds and used a ton of fuel to crush some things. The Donkey Kong truck shouldn't just be commended for its ability to remind people that DK Jungle Climber and Donkey Kong Barrel Blast are available at fine retailers everywhere, it also placed fourth in its first ever competition. According to Monster Jam Online's account of the story, it achieved "some huge air and several slap wheelies."

Driver Frank Krmel appeared to struggle more with maintaining a smile in the face of wearing a DK suit and tie than he did piloting the new monster truck. He said of the new ride, "Donkey Kong has been around since 1981, and everyone's seen it all over the place, so they figured Monster Jam was the next natural progression." Truly. Where could the series have gone but to monster trucking? A full shot of the truck is after the jump.

Nintendo To Woo Monster Truck Fans With Donkey Kong

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 12:14 PM on December 7, 2007

donkey_kong_kart.jpgIf you're a fan of mud-spurting, flame-spitting funny cars, the kind of a truck enthusiast whose ears don't perk up unless their of the "monster" variety, you may want to keep tabs on the Monster Jam truck schedule. Oh, if you like Donkey Kong, you might want to pay attention extra hard. Nintendo let us know today that the Donkey Kong Monster Jam truck will make its first public appearance this weekend, at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It will race against other trucks that are considered monstrous and could very well run over some things.

According to a press release we were handed, Nintendo VP George Harrison said "Donkey Kong has always been a force to be reckoned with. The new Donkey Kong truck lets us show off his rowdy behaviour to his fans, whether they have been playing his games for decades or just discovered them." Somehow, I just can't picture him saying this. It seems forced.

Diddy Kong Almost Dies

Posted by Mike Fahey at 12:20 AM on November 6, 2007

Another Smash Bros. short has shown up at the Dojo this week, possibly a continuation of the Donkey+Diddy video posted at the end of October. In this particular clip, Diddy Kong almost gets eaten by a Pokemon of a type I will not even attempt to identify (Okay fine, it's Rayquaza), only to have the sea creature's meal ruined by a fortuitously crashed Fox McCloud, ruining what could have been one of the most beautiful game character deaths ever depicted. For some reason Diddy has always felt like the Scrappy to Donkey Kong's Scooby to me, and so he must die a painful death. Slowly being chewed to death over the course of a few hours by a giant Pokemon seems fitting. Thanks a lot, Starfox.
