Rage, ATI And Battlefield 3 Beta Don’t Mix

Is your PC version of Rage crashing to the desktop? Do you have an ATI graphics card? Bethesda’s Pete Hines tweets that a conflict between ATI’s Battlefield 3 beta drivers and Rage might be the cause. Time for a rollback!

ATI Catalyst 8.2 Drivers, You Know You Want Them

Kotaku AU

Just because AMD’s busy with its Phenom processors doesn’t mean the company’s gone slack with driver releases for its Radeon brand of graphics cards. Hence, AMD’s just brought out version 8.2 of its Catalyst software/driver bundle.

Hardware-wise, there are a bunch of fixes for CrossFire and HDMI. On the software side, AMD’s improved the functionality and usability of the OverDrive overclocking feature.

Under known issues, Lost Planet, Quake Wars, and STALKER all received attention, with a particularly nasty one for Unreal Tournament 3 and maximum texture settings. You can learn more about this particular revision by reading the rest of the release notes.

I’ve included links to the Vista 32-bit and Windows XP versions of the drivers below. If you need anything else, best to visit AMD’s ATI site.

NVIDIA Makes 169.21 ForceWare Drivers Available

Kotaku AU

If you like to stay up-to-date with your system drivers, and own an NVIDIA graphics card, then you might want to download the latest WHQL ForceWare candidates.

There’s no mention of any specific games that these drivers affect, however, they do add support for NVIDIA’s upcoming 8800 GTS based on the company’s G92 chip (the same one in the excellent 8800 GT). Not that they’re available yet, but there’s nothing wrong with being prepared.

If you’re curious, there’s a huge PDF of release notes. As much as I’d like to read them, I’d more than likely suffocate myself with my phone before reaching the end.

The link here leads to the Vista 32-bit version of the drivers. Versions for other Windows operating systems can be found in the immediate area following the link.

NVIDIA Pumps Out New Beta Crysis Drivers. Again.

Kotaku AU

Another beta driver. For Crysis. I know – you’ve seen it all before.

But wait! This one’s special. The latest set, sporting the semi-naughty version number of 169.09, has this interesting statement in its release notes:

Recommended driver for Crysis.

Has NVIDIA caressed as much performance as it can from its drivers for Crysis, or is this simply the standard disclaimer it’d attach to any new driver release around the time of a major game launch?

My bet is on the latter. Regardless, a few extra frames is nothing to sneeze at when faced with a game as demanding as Crytek’s finest, so download these babies if a GeForce 6, 7 or 8 card calls your PC home.

NVIDIA’s “Crysis” Beta Drivers Out Now

Kotaku AU

Yes, some more Crysis-related news. You love it.

NVIDIA did it for BioShock and now, with the Crysis demo hogging bandwidth on file servers from here to Nepal, it’s released beta drivers for EA’s latest FPS as well.

The 169.01 drivers are available for GeForce 6, 7 and 8 owners. No news on comparative performance to previous Forceware versions, but you can see them in action alone over at TweakTown, where they do mighty fine work.
