Look, an MMO based on Warhammer was always going to be popular. Not as popular as one based on 40K, but hey, still pretty popular. But this popular? You’re all getting carried away, and you’ll regret it come morning. EA have announced that 500,000 people have signed up for Warhammer Online’s beta program. Reminder: this is just a beta.
The Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning team have gone elf crazy this month, releasing a slew of elven assets covering elves both Dark and High, their gear, their banners, and pictures of them dressed up as particular classes, including the Witch Elves and Swordmasters. If you look closely through the gallery below you’ll also find pics of the bow-wielding Shadow Warrior, whose very name strikes fear in the hearts of…shadows, I suppose. Spooky. Not that I don’t appreciate concept art, but can we get some nice, meaty screenshots next time? The elves can even be clothed, if you wish.
Gallery after the jump.
Destructoid recently got their hands on an email from Mythic VP Rob Denton in which he explained that there would be restructuring within EA’s Mythic and their Redwood Shores studio. It specifically stated that: …every studio, group and division of the company has been tasked to review its overall headcount and adjust its organisation to meet the needs of the business moving forward.
We got in touch with an EA spokesperson on the matter and here was what they had to say on the matter:
Is it EA’s Warhammer Online that’s supposed to be the new WoW killer? You know, after Vanguard: Saga of Heroes vanished completely from the radar?
I think it is.
TenTonHammer reports that developer EA Mythic will be flicking the switch to the “Off” position on Warhammer’s beta servers come October 10 (which will be the 11th for us), after which they’ll stay down until December (which is, um, December for us). TenTonHammer is confident that all is normal (can’t say that I’m worried), and that the developer has simply finished with this stage of the beta.
Warhammer Online to Close Beta Servers for Two Months [TenTonHammer]
If you’ve been following the development of Warhammer Online: Age Of Reckoning as closely as I have, you’ve only got one question on your mind. “Where are the cyber-friendly races?” I know, right? Humans are nice and all, but we’re already humans. What we need is elves. Hot, sexy elves, preferably with mailboxes to dance on. EA Mythic knows what we want, and they’ll be showing them off at the Leipzig Games Convention next week. Elves both Dark and High will be revealed at a special press conference on August 22nd at the GOA booth, where conventioneers will be able to go hands-on with WAR’s RvR gameplay, new starting zones, and a host of as of yet unseen content and features. “This is information fans have been asking for so we are incredibly excited to unveil the last two armies in WAR,” said Jeff Hickman, Senior Producer for EA Mythic. “We have a lot of art and information to reveal and we could not think of a better venue than Games Convention to share these details with the growing Warhammer community.”
Bring us this…art. I shall use it to get a head start on my WAR slashfics.
