Posted by Michael McWhertor at 7:40 AM on November 5, 2008

The more casual console collectors in the audience may scoff at the asking price for this PowerFest '94 Competition Super Nintendo, but if you've got an extra fifty-thousand dollar bill lying around, you really can't go wrong with this little stocking stuffer. Built for the Nintendo World Championships II competition, this one of a kind survivor — only 32 were made, they say — from the early '90s is a hidden bargain.

Custom Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 Goes For $US17,100

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 5:40 AM on October 29, 2008

The mind-blowing Metal Gear Solid 4-themed PlayStation 3, modded by Morpheon Mods and signed by Mr. Hideo Kojima himself, has been *gavel whack* SOLD to the eBay gentleman in the back for an astounding $US17,100. The current exchange rate means that's a metric shitton of cash, far more than we had ever expected. Some cut of that seventeen grand goes to the Child's Play Charity, possibly as much as $US2,565, if that authorisation letter from the organisation is accurate.

Get This, People Are PAYING For LittleBigPlanet Beta Keys

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 12:20 PM on September 30, 2008

Over the past, oh, week or so, Sony have been handing out keys to the LittleBigPlanet beta. They've been limited, yeah, but if you hang around long enough (or keep an eye on your RSS feeds) it shouldn't be too hard to get your hands on one. But, hey, why go to all the hard work when you can buy your way in? Yes, continuing in the fine tradition of half-witted internet capitalism, people are selling their LBP beta keys online, and other people are buying them. For up to USD$90 a pop. With the full retail game out in just a few weeks.

Dress Your Baby In Murloc

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 10:00 AM on September 9, 2008

Still don't know what to dress up your littlest spawn as this Halloween? Want to impress the other mommies at BlizzCon? How about a setting them off on the wrong foot by starting their World of Warcraft cosplay habit early — really early — with this handmade Baby Murloc costume? This apparent one of a kind beastly get up is going for a song on eBay right now, with less than a day left.

According to the seller, the Baby Murloc outfit comes with a "zippered front, snapped leg opening, hooded top, and reinforced spikes" as well as hands and feet. Pictures are limited, but from what we've seen it looks razor sharp (in a design way, not a baby hurting way) and should probably be going for much, much more.

We don't think Child Protection Services will say word one about it, either.

40kg Destroy All Humans UFO From Pandemic, Only On eBay!

Australian Post Posted by Logan Booker at 4:30 PM on July 21, 2008

pandemic_ufo.jpgIf you've been chasing a 40kg UFO constructed of steel and flashing lights, look no further than this eBay auction. Pandemic's moving out of its Brisbane studio, and needs to find a home for this custom-made alien saucer. The starting price is a hefty $1199, though the listing says this is to pay for it to be taken down from the company's lobby and placed on the back of a truck.

Wondering what you could do with your own Destroy All Humans-themed UFO? Pandemic's Rob Davis supplied us with the following suggestions:

* Fill it with ice and drink beer out of it
* Children's Play area (safety not guaranteed)
* Two Words: UFO Jacuzzi
I'd go with #1, but that's just me. A second shot, taken from underneath, can be found after the jump.

Incredible Gamer Earrings: Too Much, Or Just Enough?

Posted by Leigh Alexander at 6:20 AM on June 27, 2008

So, I'm sort of on the fence about video game-themed earrings. I mean, nothing screams Hay Boyz, I'm a Gamer Gurl like game earrings, right? I mean, okay. My phone rings the radio samba mix of Portal's Still Alive, often while I'm wearing my "Solid Snake 08" campaign T-shirt. Either that, or my phone is making the Codec noise while I'm making crappy Harvest Moon animals out of polymer clay, but earrings? I may or may not own some Mario mushroom earrings, but I often debate wearing them.

But these are pretty cool, right? It's an eBay store called The Clay Collection that features these hand-crafted, penny-sized earrings of geek paraphernalia - there are the tiny Companion Cubes I would have made had I only the fine motor skill, there are tiny Nintendo light guns and Bloopers that look absolutely fantastic, too, as well as other non-game related memetics like fast food and Mystery Science Theatre.

Let's have a little discussion, shall we? Do you rock any game-related clothing items? Belt buckles, messenger bags, T-shirts, wristbands, beanies? How do you feel about it? More Clay Collection pics after the jump, too.

How Do Capcom Know When To Revive A Franchise?

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 6:30 PM on June 13, 2008

Broad answer: they "evaluate the fanbase and see if there's a market for it". More specific answer: "Sometimes we see games on eBay, and that's how you see what games people are willing to spend $AU 85.14 on". That's Capcom's John Diamonon. Course, he's quick to stress that's not the only way they check, and it's probably not even near the top three mthods they employ. But it sure is an interesting one. Probably more effective than the blood-stained letters I've been sending them for the last ten years, threatening/pleading for a new Captain Commando game.

Summer Blockbuster Maximise Licenced Crap Profit

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 8:40 AM on June 11, 2008

Summer blockbusters don't just line the pockets of film studio executives and actors working on a percentage of the gross, it looks like they help resellers of licenced games too. According to a bit of research from the Video Game Price Charts blog—I've used them in the past when selling my unwanted games via eBay—the time to strike when selling your copy of Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine or Iron Man / X-O Manowar in Heavy Metal is when the movie adaptations hit theatres.

Yes, there's even a market for the terrible PlayStation Speed Racer game! Plenty of interesting charts and graphs await hopeful auctioneers at VGPC. I'm off to put a spit shine on my copy of The X-Files for PSone in anticipation!
