This Eye of Judgment schwag isn’t just neat, it actually is useful. Sony sent me a black faux leather sack and a metal card carrying case. You put your Eye of Judgement deck in the case and then slip the case into a tiny pocket sewn into the sack. I assume you put the head of your defeated enemy in the rest of the bag after the game… or maybe it’s for carting around the camera, stand and playfield. Neah, its gotta be for the heads.
We’ve already proven that the collectible cards for The Eye of Judgment are easily copyable, but some Japanese 2channel message board posters have an even lower tech solution for skirting card security. Allegedly, some DIY PlayStation 3 owners have created their own fake cards without requiring an original scan nor access to special inks, generating them with Photoshop or simply drawing out the basic identifying shapes by hand with a couple of coloured felt-tipped markers.
Unfortunately, the west coast office has no access to a copy of The Eye of Judgement with which to test this out. It’s actually I’m quite interested in pursuing, as I asked the game’s North American producers just how they had planned to circumvent card copying and cheating at E3 earlier this year. They didn’t seem the slightest bit concerned at the time.
Given that one of their revenue streams may be drying up, should guilt-free players opt not to drop $US 15 on theme packs or $US 4 on booster packs, we wonder how concerned they are now.
Thanks for the tip, macavity. More »
Despite supposedly being printed using special inks rendering photocopying impossible, reports are sprouting up around the interwebs of people successfully copying cards from Eye of Judgement on the PlayStation 3 and scanning them into the game with little or no problem. One of our readers sent pictures of a card he printed out from Penny Arcade, which despite some curling and colour differences from the other cards seems to be scanning in just fine. I decided to try it out myself. More »
Gabe and Tycho are Eye of Judgement savants. The two have been obsessing over the game since they played it in San Diego at Comic Con earlier this year.
So when they read that I had the game set-up in my gaming room, Tycho pinged me to see if I’d like to play a match. Which was great, because I’m working on a review of the game and really wanted to get more of a taste for the online play, besides what I’d seen playing it against the Sony rep.
Match one ended quickly, the cards barely used as Tycho handed me my arse in the game. The next week, yesterday in fact, Tycho asked if I was up for another game. Sure, I said. Great, we’ll set up a game…
We?
Oh, Tycho forgot to mention that Gabe, master of the Pokedeck, was joining him in the pwnage. They play coop you see, sitting around their table wearing velvet robes, I suspect, plotting my demise and cackling over my misfortunes.
I tried a little idle smack talk before we launched into our second match, this one powered by a deck I had recently built just for the occasion. The game was even shorter, and results even juicier in pwnage. Dammit.
While I can’t decide if this is a game that will maintain my interest, it’s certainly one that has captured it momentarily and it’s not because of the visual gimmicks. More »

So the Denver Press Club, which had offered up their usually vacant building to use the fundraiser I was thinking of doing in has unexpectedly, and with no notice, backed out. Apparently they can make more money renting the place for parties then donating it for a weekday night for charity. Go figure.
Anyway I hit up a new place tonight to see if I could sweet talk the price down. Even if I can’t I might just rent the place out of pocket, wtf. The best part? If I can get the place its got an honest to god stage, one used by many a well known musician. How kick ass would it be to play Guitar Hero 3 or Rock Band up there?

OK boys and girls prepare to watch me have my ass handed to… me.. by a Sony guy. Stay tuned to watch it live and comment. OK it’s working again. More »
I’m really enjoying Eye of Judgement so far, but my review and impressions remain under embargo. While I can’t write about my latest time with the game, I can post this lovely close-up of an Eye of Judgement card, just so you can get a sense of what they look like and how they work. Hit the jump for the explanation. More »
Today being Thursday in the United States, Sony have gone ahead and updated your PlayStation Store. With what, I hear you ask with a half-hearted sense of idle curiosity? Buncha stuff. You’ve got demos for The Simpsons and Bladestorm, trailers for Uncharted, Haze, Tekkonkinkreet and Surf’s Up, a couple of tutorials for NBA 08 and Eye Of Judgement and…a game! A real game. Go! Sports Ski, which is only $US 3 and lets you ski with the SixAxis. That’s at least one or two good times right there. PlayStation Store Update [PlayStation.Blog] More »
Hausmann, Sony’s external PR company, just sent through a games release schedule for the PlayStation 3. According to the schedule, Sony expects to have Eye Of Judgement on Australian shelves by October 25th. Well, there’s a TBC next to that date, but it’s better than just the “October” we were playing with before.
If the date sticks, it means EoJ barely makes it as an Oct release; we’ll be waiting the better part of this month for it.
In other news, I still haven’t been able to track down a shop that’ll be stocking the booster packs, and Sony has yet to get back to me about this small oversight… More »
