How Can Mario Shirts Cost $US175?

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 12:40 PM on November 4, 2008

Easy! Take a t-shirt and apply the Bape sub-label Baby Milo. That's eighty bucks already. You're almost half way there. Next, make it exclusive to the members-only online store Nigo's Favourite Shop. Finally, add Japanese import mark up and you've easily reached $US175. The designs, featuring artwork from the Bape branded Nintendo DSs released earlier this year, may not be spectacular enough to warrant nearly two-hundred bucks in t-shirt purchases, but it's not outrageous for retailers to ask this much money.

Canuck Costumiers Clothe Croft

Posted by Stuart Houghton at 7:20 AM on October 29, 2008

Everyone's favourite Cheltenham-educated grave robber Lara Croft can't be short of a few quid - what with all the golden idols and treasures of the ancients she must have kicking around the attic of Croft Manor. Nevertheless, she seems to have a fairly limited wardrobe. Barring the rare occasions she slips into a ballgown to infiltrate an arms dealer's party or sprays on a swimsuit for shark-dodging shenanigans she seems perfectly happy to leap about the place in what must by now be a rather scruffy pair of hot pants and matching top.

Dress Your Children In Pac-Men And Ghosts

Posted by Stuart Houghton at 1:20 PM on October 8, 2008

McWhertor posted some slightly ridiculous Pac-Man couture last month that we are fairly confident in saying will not be making an appearance on the High Street any time soon.

Pac-Man Hats Go Haute Couture

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 10:00 AM on September 17, 2008

The best thing about runway models wearing massive and bulbous headwear is that it detracts from their chunky thighs. Seriously, would it kill these girls to substitute one watercress salad with a pack of Marlboro lights once in a while? We're therefore thankful that fashion designer Giles Deacon has tapped into Pac-Man design lore for his/their Spring-Summer 2009 collection. The line, which was on display at London Fashion Week, might not be outed for its Pac-Man influence based solely on the hat pictured above, but the Blinky-inspired hat, seen in the gallery below, pretty much confirms it.

Thanks to David for the tip (and the Associated Press for the pics)!

In Case Of Emergency, Design Star Power T-Shirt

Australian Post Posted by Logan Booker at 12:30 PM on September 10, 2008

star_shirt.jpgReader James Lillis recently sent in this Mario-themed T-shirt design. He didn't mention where one might acquire it (or indeed, if it's on sale at all), so we'll just have to please ourselves with a simple look-see.

My only problem? If there is an emergency, and I'm hanging around in this shirt, someone will undoubtedly take the opportunity to punch me in the chest - as hard as they can - in a vain attempt to access star-powered goodness. I don't know if I want to give people a reason to punch me any more than they already do.

Playing God Is The Shirt Of The Game We Wish Existed

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 8:30 PM on September 2, 2008

I'm not normally the biggest fan of Threadless tees. But this one? This one I'm down with. It's not new, no, but it seems to have gone by largely unnoticed, which is a shame. The world has plenty of "God" games, not nearly enough God games.

Final Fantasy XIII Comes To Men's Formal Wear

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 10:00 AM on August 5, 2008

While the surprise announcements that did come out of the Square Enix DKΣ3713 Private Party were definitely post-worthy, Final Fantasy Agito XIII coming to the PSP is a big deal doesn't hold a candle to oddball product cross-collaborations. The biggest news to come out of the weekend event was that Square Enix and Roen would be releasing Final Fantasy Versus XIII formal wear, real world items worn by in-game characters — perfect for the prom!

It looks like the collaboration works both ways, as this is more than just cheap cosplay stuff. Roen looks to have worked with Square Enix on character designs for Versus XIII.

Before you excitedly whip out the credit card, be warned that Roen is obscenely expensive. Sure, their tank tops are just dazzling, but even we balk at $US 240 price tags.

Space Invaders Boutique Swag For The Refined Space Invaders Fan

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 11:00 AM on August 2, 2008

This year, the year of the 30th anniversary of the release of the original Space Invaders, you can get Taito's iconic aliens on anything and everything — luggage, bath towels, fitted caps, pillows, tumblers, headphones, whatever! No product is too cheap or too expensive to have some invaders impressed upon it!

Thankfully, for the more boutique focused Japanese consumer, Taito has teamed up with the many designers who set up shop in the Laforet Museum, a multi-tiered shopping centre in Harajuku that caters to the discriminating shopper. They're selling Space Invaders branded tees, parkas, underwear, dresses, ties bejeweled frilly things, all at outrageous prices, all in sizes that don't fit you.

Mega Man 9's Retro Art Stylings

Posted by Brian Crecente at 1:00 AM on July 25, 2008

Everyone who visited Capcom's booth at E3 last week were treated to a peek at a glorious retro Mega Man t-shirt. The shirt reflects the decision Capcom made to turn Mega Man 9 into an "impossible hard" 8-bit revival of the franchise.

The marketing group decided that since the game was going to look like it came from 1987 they whole marketing campaign should too. So they called up I Am 8-bit artist Gerald de Jesus and had him whip up a truly fantastic bit of fantasy Mega Man art for the fabled shirt.

Only four of the shirts were created for Inafune and Takeshita to wear during last week's show. The good news? Capcom promises to start selling the shirts on their site soon.
