Nintendo Pedometer Is For DS Walking Game

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 8:30 PM on October 3, 2008

Mystery. Solved. That mysterious Nintendo pedometer from the other day has turned out to be more than a patented pipe-dream, as it featured in yesterday's Nintendo Fall Press Conference. The pedometer is to be bundled with DS game "Your Life Rhythm", which is basically a Brain Training/Wii FIt kinda program, just for your DS. And all you do is walk. So exactly like a normal pedometer, then, just a little more expensive, and a little more fiddly, since a normal pedometer doesn't make you plug it into a portable gaming system just to see how far you've gone.

Cosplay And Running To World of Warcraft Weight Loss

Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 10:00 PM on October 1, 2008

Forget Wii Fit, try World of Warcraft fit. WoW player Althaea has hooked up WoW to a treadmill. And that's not all, oh no. Althaea, along with his buff gym buddy, don wigs, plastic ears and carry swords as they jog on the treadmill and cause their in game avatars to break on a sprint. The excercise not only helped Althaea diagnose his sleep apnea and even lose 100 pounds.

MMO Players Surprisingly Adept At Lying On Surveys

Posted by Mike Fahey at 3:20 AM on October 1, 2008

MSNBC is running an interesting story on a recent survey conducted by researchers at the University of Southern California that indicates that MMORPG players rank among the most physically fit people in America. The data was pulled from more than 7,000 Everquest 2 players, enticed to answer the 25-minute survey with a limited-edition in-game item.

Still, players scored well on physical health compared to the rest of the nation. They reported exercising vigorously once or twice a week, as opposed to 62 percent of American adults who don't exercise for more than 10 minutes at any time.

They also found that MMO players are on average 10 percent leaner than the average American.

Okay, so I ran the story as it was presented, now let's take a look at how we run it in reality land.

Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum Brings Body Shame To Wii

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 12:40 PM on September 23, 2008

You may remember that the star of NBC's The Biggest Loser, Jillian Michaels, issued an ultimatum to gamers earlier this year. With Majesco's Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum 2009 the fitness guru has given you two options: whip your sorry arse into shape or, you know, don't. It's up to you. After seeing Ms. Michaels' gloriously toned midriff, however, you may be shamed into leaning toward "whip arse into shape," even if the graphics look clunky as hell and monkeybar climbing with a Wii-remote looks decidedly lame. Still, the debut trailer for the game is worth it for the camera's attention on Jillian's ab-region. We don't mind being pandered to.

You've Been Sent a FITNESS ULTIMATUM

Posted by Owen Good at 10:00 AM on September 21, 2008

Alright, well, if Wii Fit wasn't badass enough for you, now you can sign up to have your arse kicked by Jillian Michaels, whose "Fitness Ultimatum" for Wii (out next year) apparently involves an invisible Wiimote and a completely unforeseen monkey-bars peripheral. Graphics look a little clunky, but if you're dripping as much sweat as this thing promises, you probably won't care. But then, if you buy this thing, your priorities are probably way different from a standard gamer's.

Wii Fit Makes Brilliant Gadget List

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 8:20 AM on October 16, 2007

wii_fit_wins.jpgPopular Mechanics is the new Alpha Mom. The publication loves Wii Fit so much, it put it on its Top 10 Most Brilliant Gadgets of 2007 list, writing that it "turns fitness into a game, instead of a chore." It shares a spot on the list with consumer products like Apple's iPhone, Microsoft's Surface and the Zonbu Zonbox, none of which make exercising fun and therefore fail miserably. I suppose I could do a thousand bicep curls with my iPhone and see some results. I'll let you know how that goes.
