Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon franchise has always occupied the “tactical military shooter” space a bit uneasily. The series initially focused on brutally lethal engagements in long, outdoor spaces, but with the Advanced Warfighter games of the mid-2000s evolved to cast the player as a technologically enhanced one-man army, pitting him against tanks, helicopters and platoons of enemy soldiers.
So, perhaps unsurprisingly, it seems there’s another decent installation in the Ghost Recon series. Which is all well and good, but where’s our LEGO Ghost Recon games?
In 2010, Ubisoft released one of the best video game “trailers” I’d ever seen, using fancy effects and real actors to bring Ghost Recon to life.
Ghost Recon: Future Soldier hits shelves on May 22, a week from Tuesday, but Ubisoft is already letting everyone know about extra stuff they can buy later on this year. Specifically, the “Arctic Strike Map Pack,” coming your way July 3 for $US10.
Halo 4‘s not the only AAA game with a real-life movie lead-in. Ubisoft’s just announced that their near-future squad shooter will be preceded by Ghost Recon Alpha, a 26-minute live-action film that will air on G4.
Everyone’s favourite evening of games, music, graffiti and alcoholic milkshakes is back at the Oxford Arts Factory in Sydney on May 17. You’ll be able to play the final build of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier over multiple screens, a week before its release. Plus: retro games and foot-long hotdogs!
