Bill Murray was on Letterman the other night and got talking Ghostbusters. Then he got talking the recent Ghostbusters game. I had to watch it four times to catch it all, so dazzled was I by that shirt.

Ghostbusters’ Future Not So Ethereal

Among the many games killed, sold-off or in some sort of nebulous video game purgatory is frightening shooter Ghostbusters.

The game made a splash earlier this year with some demo time at a few events, some wayward promotional lanyards and even a bit of time in my house, but since hitting everyone’s radar Ghostbusters has essentially vanished.

Now we hear that among the publishers looking to snatch up the game is Atari which hopes to not only publish the game but make it the crown jewel of their turn-around.

Emails to Phil Harrison (and hassling of the gaggle of clone Harrison running around the tower) have netted us exactly nothing. The official words from Activision are “no comment” so take this one with a grain of salt until things find a bit more solid ground.

PAX Ghostbusters Lanyards Were Ghosts Of The Past

We were as puzzled as anyone as to why Penny Arcade Expo attendees were being given lanyards advertising the currently in limbo Ghostbusters: The Game. Who would go to all the trouble of getting so many promotional items made up for a game that has no publisher? People from the past, that’s who. According to Penny Arcade’s Robert Khoo, speaking to Variety, Sierra had signed up to sponsor the lanyards way back in January, delivered the product in June, only to find out weeks before the show that the game was no longer a going concern as far as far as ActiBlizzard was concerned.

With little time left to get new lanyards together, the PAX folks just ran with it, thus creating the sad little Ghostbusters promotional items. There’s a bright side at least. As Variety’s Ben Fritz points out, whoever winds up publishing the game just got a boatload of free advertising courtesy of Sierra.
