So just why don’t video games go silver or copper? Does it have to do with the process of mass production? Yes, of course. No. It’s because every game is “going for it” like an Olympian, just like Unreal Tournament 3 for PC.
Actually, let’s just stick with the “gold master” argument and point out that UT3 is prepared for mass duplication and should ship on November 19th. Europeans could see the game as early as November 23rd, but there’s no way Team America is hurrying up on your accord. We’ll all be too busy playing…and using steroids to train for Beijing.
Sick of the demo? Keen to get DX10ish goodies running on your Xp-runnin’ PC? All good. Crysis just went gold. That’s it! Expect no further changes to the promised product until you’re inevitably forced to patch it 2 hours after picking your copy up on November 16. Crysis Gold [GameDaily.biz]
To ensure that the divorce rate would skyrocket before the coming holiday season, Ubisoft has finalised Assassin’s Creed (Xbox 360 AND PS3) for mass printing and Nov. 13th release.
Phew. I’m not sure exactly why, but I’ve had a bad feeling about Assassin’s Creed getting delayed—not that it would have been such a travesty, honestly, with too many titles to keep up with as it is. I never in my wildest dreams would have thought about prioritising a game over Assassin’s back when I saw it behind closed doors at E3 06. Then again, the prospect of savoring all this AAA goodness instead of just devouring it in one ginormous bite is enticing enough to warrant some modicum of restraint.
Not sure how this one slipped under the radar, but it looks like we have a semi-official Crysis gold announcement from Jan Müller, a Crytek programmer. On the 19th, he made this post on his blog:
It’s done, when it’s done, but Crysis is due to ship on November 16th, so it’s pretty obvious it’s done.
Jan also mentioned a few details on what Crytek will be doing post-Crysis:
Anyway the company changed a lot during that time and will change more in the near future : some of our seniors and also my lead programmer are relocating to Budapest to work on a completely new franchise. A good colleague of mine, Alex, whom I really enjoyed working with, is sadly leaving the company, while new people are being hired for the next project here in the studio Frankfurt.
Crysis is about due for a gold announcement, so hearing this means that the game hasn’t been delayed further, and should make its November release date… in the States at least.
In the End… [Jan's Blog, thanks Brendan]
When I read that Mass Effect had finally gone gold, my heart leapt. Two bluebirds flew in through the conveniently open window within close proximity, dropping a wreath of rosemary and dandelions upon my head. My Xbox 360 kicked on, warming the room its…love. And somewhere, off in the distance, I could swear I heard an angel swooping down to rescue a baby who would have otherwise spilled apple juice all over the rug. Then I realised-
Mass Effect still doesn’t come out for a month. DAMN!
