Future Publishing’s Golden Joystick Awards is huge in the UK, and probably ranks among some of largest awards ceremonies for gaming worldwide.
Now Future Australia, publisher of mags such as the Official Xbox Magazine, T3, the Official Nintendo Magazine and PSM3 are running an Australian Golden Joystick Awards, and they’re looking for your vote.
The world’s oldest video game awards return for their 26th year, and they need your opinion. Voting has opened for the 26th annual Golden Joysticks, Future UK’s yearly video game awards decided strictly by votes taken from the gamers themselves. Last year over 750,000 votes were tallied to prove that people really, really liked Gears of War. This year they aim to up that to over a million folks telling us how good BioShock was.
You can head over to the website at www.goldenjoystick.com right now and watch it desperately try to load up, or you can simply wait a bit later after the initial announcement frenzy has died down and cast your vote in a more relaxed fashion.
Man, those BAFTA awards were nutty. Games in the wrong category, games nominated that weren’t even out yet…what a mess. Were the Golden Joysticks any better? We’d love to say “yes”, but are going to instead bust out a resounding “no”. Why? Because of the award’s scheduling, the winners list reads exactly like a list of…the best games of 2006. Full list of winners after the jump, but know Gears of War and Guitar Hero II feature prominently.
Gears of War kicked some major boo-tay at the UK’s Golden Joystick awards earlier today. The game took home four awards including the biggie, Ultimate Game of the Year. Meanwhile, God of War II took Playstation game of the Year, and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess grabbed the honors as the top Nintendo title. Hit the jump for a full list of winners compliments of CVG.
And also, please don’t stop reading us because we used the word “boo-tay.” We’re ashamed and it won’t happen again…soon.
