Heavenly Swords Need No Metal

While flipping through the internet this morning, we came across this pretty decent fan-made Heavenly Sword sword. We were a little surprised to find that it was made an a school’s shop class, though. Instead of making some stupid cabinet or a DVD shelf like the rest of the class, I decided to make something a little more original…Ironical, I was the first one to get cut by my sword. I let a kid hold it and he got a little power hungry, started swinging it around and cut my in the arm. For a wooden sword, it sure cuts well.

Don’t tell his teacher. Here’s a bonus shot:

New PS3 Bundle Coming To Australia

While this has nothing to do with a larger hard drive, Sony will be offering a new bundle in Australia that includes a 40GB PS3, second Sixaxis controller and one of the following games: Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction or NBA 08 all for $799.95. Wow, that’s looking a LOT better than the original $1000 PS3 launch price that Luke had to put up with. New PlayStation 3 bundle confirmed by Sony [PALGN]

Target’s $779 PS3 Bundle Includes Extra Controller, One Game [Updated]

Kotaku AU

Update: We’ve tracked down the correct image and it looks like it’s a choice of either game, not both. So not as good a deal sadly. Thanks to the helpful readers who pointed this out.

If you’re in the market for a Playstation 3, tipster Brendan recommends you check out Target. As you can deduce from the image above, the retail chain is offering the console with a bonus controller and copies of Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction and Heavenly Sword for the slightly mad sum of $779.

Now, if Target was bundling Lair and Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire, I’d be vomiting uncontrollably right now, but Tools of Destruction and Heavenly Sword are quality titles you’d most likely pick up anyway. Considering the 40GB PS3 is priced at ~$650, the controller ~$70 and the games ~$100 each, the value is very strong in this one.

[Thanks Brendan!]

Playboy Picks Best, Jiggliest Games of 2007

You’ve seen our picks, maybe noticed what Time, Maxim and others had to say about gaming in 2007, but Playboy’s choices are finally in. They not only went safe, picking Bioshock as their game of the year, but went with their demographic, opting to choose the 2007 game with the “Best Jiggle Factor.” It might not have been my choice, as I like my ridiculously oversized gaming girl breasts covered in slime, but I suppose Heavenly Sword deserved to walk away with some sort of accolade this year. Ninja Gaiden Sigma oversight aside, it’s a fairly solid list.

Kung Fu Chaos For Xbox Live?

Kotaku AU

No, it’s not happening, but Nina Kristensen sure wouldn’t mind seeing it on either Microsoft or Sony’s download services, according to a recent interview with Lesbian Gamers:

Kung Fu Chaos would be awesome as an XBLA or PSN game! I think we’re going to be seeing more and more interesting and diverse games coming along in the next few years as online & downloadables become increasingly mainstream.

Kristensen founded Just Add Monsters, the original developer of the title. She’s over at Ninja Theory now, which as we know created the PS3′s Heavenly Sword.

Speaking of Heavenly Sword, Nina reiterates in the interview that the game is just the first in a trilogy. Here’s the quote verbatim, in case you missed it:

We haven’t announced anything as yet but I can confirm that when we wrote the original story we did write it as a trilogy…

Yah! Do you think they’ll get Andy Serkis in to do the mo-cap again?

Aussie Sales Charts

Never saw this coming. After depriving Australia of Super Paper Mario for five months, Nintendo finally released it last week. How’d it do? As you’d expect a tasty burger to do when dropped in the hands of a desperate, starving man: it was gobbled up. We didn’t even pause for breath. Also nice seeing Heavenly Sword at #2, proving that Australian PS3 owners do play games on the system, and didn’t just buy it to show off their new HDTVs with.

1) Super Paper Mario 2) Heavenly Sword 3) SingStar Pop Hits (Bundle) 4) SingStar 90s (Bundle) 5) SingStar 90s 6) World in Conflict 7) Ratatouille (PS2) 8) Sims 2: Bon Voyage 9) Pokemon DIamond 10) Medal of Honour: Airborne (360)

Kratos’ Armor Makes Guest Appearance in Heavenly Sword

Comparisons between Heavenly Sword and God of War are inevitable considering the similar control scheme, but apparently the creators of HS haven’t shied away from giving props (literally) to their obvious inspiration. PlayStation Underground forum poster KiNGoFClubs discovered this little homage to Kratos buried with in the game. During one of Kai’s missions, Kratos’ GOW2 armour and Blades of Chaos can be spotted hanging on a gate in a castle courtyard. You got to hand it to the designers, if you’re going to take inspiration from another game, at least be cool enough to own up to it. You can check out more screen caps here on the PlayStation forums.

[Thanks, Ray]

Frankenreview, Heavenly Sword (PS3)

Lair took a really bad beating last week, breaking the hearts of PS3 fanboys around the world. But it would be OK because there was another Chosen One that Sony had been flaunting for months: Ninja Theory’s Heavenly Sword. We nicknamed it Goddess of War during E306, but even with the its chainsword-driven action, the game seems to have blossomed into its own entity at this point—for the good or the bad.

So hit the jump for our Frankenreview: the one review that will dictate whether or not the PS3 is good for something other than big screen porn. That is, if you don’t consider a beautiful redhead kicking royal ass in skimpy clothing to be some logical extension of pornography.
