I was out of town for the two weeks surrounding Christmas so despite my best efforts, I didn't post all of the gaming greeting cards I received over the holidays.

Frankenreview: Resistance 2

Posted by Mike Fahey at 4:40 AM on November 12, 2008

When the PlayStation 3 began shipping back in November of 2006, there was really only one must-have game for the console, and that was Insomniac's ambitious first-person shooter, Resistance: Fall of Man. The best title at launch remains one of the best games on the console to date. Only one game due out this holiday season has a hope of stealing the sci-fi FPS crown on the console, and that's it's sequel, Resistance 2.

Resistance 2 Launch Day Screen Extravaganza

Posted by Mike Fahey at 2:40 AM on November 5, 2008

Insomniac's follow-up to the hands-down best launch title for the PlayStation 3 is in stores today, and in celebration we've been flooded with screenshots from Resistance 2. I'm heading out to pick up a copy later on in the afternoon, and the shots just make the wait even more painful. It's certainly a hell of a lot more colourful than the original, which was the poster child for the whole "Real is Brown" phenomenon that plagued the early lives of the current gen systems. Maybe I can convince Crecente I am sick so I can skip out early. Perhaps I shouldn't post said plan on the site he is the Managing Editor of. Damn.

Check out the screenies.

More Details on Resistance 2 Co-op Campaign

Australian Post Posted by Seamus Byrne at 2:30 PM on October 17, 2008

Ted Price is here in Sydney today talking Resistance 2, and he's added some detail to the nature of the dedicated co-op campaign mode. If you hadn't already heard, co-op is for up to eight players, but is a completely separate campaign to single player. That said, Ted suggests the co-op campaign itself will be good for around 100 hours of play, so this is no weak sauce mission pack (even if that is quite an exaggeration).

Co-op tunes itself to the number of players in the campaign, adjusting enemy levels to suit the team you have put together. There are also three classes in co-op: Soldier, Medic, and Spec Ops. You will need a mix of these, as Medics are your heal source and Spec Ops hold the ammo. The Soldier can provide moving cover. It was suggested that only running a two player co-op will be tough as you will be missing a class, but it won't be impossible.

More on replay value enhancements and experience rankings after the jump.

Resistance 2 Beta Kicks Off, Here's How You Get In

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 2:30 PM on October 17, 2008

Sony are kicking off the Resistance 2 multiplayer beta. Should be a hoot. But how do you get in? Ignoring the folks who preordred the game from GameStop or, worse, are Qore subscribers, it's eeeeasy. For Americans, all you need to do is visit this site (might not be up just yet, if it's not, try a little later), and Sony will take it from there (you should get your confirmation codes sometime next week). For Europeans, same story, with further details to come next week. Oh, and just to remind you how close you are to playing the real thing, Sony also announced that the game's gone gold, so should be making its November 4 release date just fine.

Resistance 2 Brings MMO Sensibilities to the World of Shooter Coop

Posted by Brian Crecente at 8:20 AM on September 24, 2008

Resistance 2 offers gamers a suite of experiences, a collection of modes that alone feel almost like stand-alone titles, but together compliment each other in a way that gives the shooter some major staying power.

Yesterday Insomniac president Ted Price told a gathering of game writers that their upcoming shooter will be the studio's "biggest and best game we've ever made."

And it's not just because the developer feels they hit it out of the ballpark with the game's single-player experience, or that they think their game offers the deepest multiplayer competitive mode around. It's also because the game's cooperative mode, which seems to tap into the dungeon-crawling, monster-bashing roots of massively multiplayer online games.

Topping all of that off, Price said, is an upcoming community portal which will include live game stats and some things other game portal sites haven't done before.

Go, Sign Up For The Resistance 2 Beta (Right Now!)

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 10:20 PM on September 10, 2008

Yup. Registrations are now open for the Resistance 2 beta test. You can go sign up on the game's official site. Better get your hurry on, though; spaces are limited, and with Insomniac not disclosing how they'll be selecting applicants, we'd suggest getting in now, in case there's some kind of "first come, most likely to be first served" thing going on. If you get in, they'll email you. If you don't, life goes on, and you can get the game when it comes out, just like everybody else.
