If I were a big fan of racing games on the iPhone and had really large pockets, this product might be right up my alley. Your iPod Touch or iPhone fits snugly in the middle of this plastic wheel, creating an apparatus that while a great deal less portable, delivers a driving experience a bit closer to actual driving than simply holding a plastic and metal rectangle in your hands does. It comes complete with multiple adapters, so your device will fit no matter what generation it might be.

The steering wheel comes in two flavours, both with and without the suction cup base. I’m not finding pricing details on the items in the official announcement, but can you really put a price on this sort of functionality? Head over to CTA Digital’s website for more product information and a listing of stores carrying their products.

Love playing games on your iPhone or iPhone Touch, yet hate using simulated touch screen control pads? Australian company 22Moo looks to throw you a bone, with the GameBone Pro iPhone controller.

It looks like the answer to the iPhone gamer’s prayers. The bone-shaped device features an 8-way D-pad, four face buttons, and two shoulder buttons, making it every bit the game controller the original Super Nintendo controller was. It even features a 200,Ah lithium-ion battery to supply extra power to your iPhone, should you find your juice running a bit low. Plus, the GamePro Bone has a built-in microphone and speakers, so you could use it as the phone itself if need be. It seems perfect, but the device isn’t without its drawbacks.

For starters, the iPhone doesn’t seem to latch onto the device anywhere, connecting through either Bluetooth or a dock cable, meaning that no matter how much easier it is to control your game, you’re going to be propping up your iPhone on something else.

Secondly, developers have to specifically add support for the device to their apps, so unless the GameBone Pro catches on, there isn’t much of a guarantee that your favourite title will support it.

Then there’s the price, which we simply don’t know. Rather that issue one, 22Moo is asking visitors to its website to suggest a price, in order to help them determine what a good selling rate would be once the device is released this September.

It’s definitely intriguing, but I am envisioning the sort of device that clips on to the back of the iPhone and slides out. That’s right – I want the iPhone to have slide-out PSP controls. A guy can dream.

Last night, while researching my iPhone gaming gift guide story, I stumbled across an iPhone adaptation of Atari classic Adventure, aka Keep that F-ing Duck Away From Me!

The game is a faithful copy of the original Atari 2600 title, complete with no music, annoying mazes and duck-faced dragons. It even has those surprise sound effects when the duck, I mean dragon, surprises you.

Instead of relying on tapping or tracing to play the game, you use the iPhone’s tilt controls, which works surprisingly well. In fact, I’ve been enjoying this version of Adventure almost as much as I enjoyed the original back when I was nine. Though that might say more about me than the game.

Did I mention it’s free? Yeah, if you have an iPhone or Touch you need to go get this, stat!

Today, firmware 2.0 and access to those 30 or so games are official.

If you’re looking to buy a game for your iPhone than make sure to check out our Ultimate Guide to iPhone Gaming which includes quick impressions of 20 or so of the games as well as screenshots, videos and details for most of the games currently available and a bunch yet to come.

Our most recent update to the guide includes impressions of Tetris, EA’s Sudoku and Crash Bandicoot Nitro Racing. Personally, I’ve played around with 15 different iPhone games and my favourites so far include Super Monkey Ball, Bomberman Touch and Trism… oh Trism. Oh, I also really like Zen Pinball.
