The Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification has rated a new title in the series, named R-Type Dimensions, for an upcoming Xbox Live Arcade release. The surprise announcement, dug up by GamerBytes, shows that Microsoft will publish, but that developer Tozai will handle all the coding wizardry.
Unfortunately, there’s little else in the way of concrete info for R-Type Dimensions, such as whether it will be a totally new entry in the series or a HD remake of a previous entry. Whatever the outcome, we don’t care. It’s R-Type!

R-Type Command, Irem’s tactical hybrid shooter for the PSP, is due in stores next week, and in case tactical space shooter action doesn’t quite grab you, publisher Atlus has sweetened the pot with this kick arse model of the R-Type R-9A Arrowhead in tasteful black and red. GameStop, Amazon.com, GameCrazy, EB Canada will all be offering the model, which originally saw life as a gashapon toy in Japan, and then offered in different colours as part of Yujin’s Shooting Game Historica collection (still available here), it’s an excellent way to show your love for all things R-Type…along with, you know…buying the game itself.
Japanese toy manufacturer Yujin is releasing a series of capsule toys featuring popular ships from classic shoot ‘em ups like Irem’s R-Type and Konami’s venerable Gradius series dubbed the “Shooting Video Game History Gashapon.”
New York based importer Nation Console Support is now taking pre-orders for the first releases in the series, listed below.
