Too Human Soundtrack Hits CD and iTunes

Posted by Brian Crecente at 3:00 AM on November 26, 2008

Too Human had a mixed reaction from reviewers. I thought the game had merit, but was flawed. Now you can buy what some may say was the best part of the title: The music.

Aurora Feint II, She's LIVE

Posted by Brian Crecente at 11:00 AM on November 22, 2008

OK, maybe I'm getting a bit too excited about Aurora Feint II: The Arena. But it is a Puzzle Quest-ish, multiplayer-ish iPhone game.

Diablo III Comes To iTunes

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 2:40 PM on September 2, 2008

It may just consist of a single track, but we'll take the three minutes and forty-six seconds of Diablo III that we can get. The "Diablo III Overture" by Russell Brower & the Eminence Symphony Orchestra is yours for the downloading, free via iTunes as part of the Discovery Download series. The symphonic ditty will likely be familiar to anyone who's watched the Diablo III debut teaser, as portions of its braying pomp and circumstance were peppered throughout.

Activision Under The Impression They Can Challenge iTunes

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 6:00 PM on July 11, 2008

Activision Blizzard have around $US 3.5 billion in cash lying around after the merger between the two companies. Where's it going to go? Who knows. Some of it on fancy new office stationary, probably. Some on getting fair trade organic coffee sold at the company cafeteria. And some on this brave endeavour: Acti boss Bobby Kotick thinks that, between the franchise's popularity and Vivendi's ownership of Universal Music, Guitar Hero as a platform could someday become a music download service to rival iTunes. Sounds fairly ridiculous considering said service would be for a game using plastic instruments rather than one allowing you to buy music for your music player, but whatever. It's your $US 3.5 billion, Bobby.

Square Enix Announces, Releases Song Summoner For iPod

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 9:40 AM on July 8, 2008

Square Enix has announced and subsequently released Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes a music-themed role-playing game for the iPod. It's available right now via iTunes for the low, low price of $US 4.99. As Ziggy, you'll battle the Mechanical Militia with your band of Tune Troopers, soldiers that you create with your iPod library, in an attempt to save the world or win your freedom or address some other pressing matter.

Song Summoner uses a "tactics-based battle system" and is controlled via the iPod's click wheel. Your Tune Troopers allies can also be "powered up" by listing to the tracks used to create them. Sound cool? If your answer is "YES!", then make your way to the press release, after the break.

Video Games Live Gets CD Release

Posted by Mike Fahey at 2:20 AM on July 8, 2008

Soon appearing on the souvenir tables at Video Games Live events around the world, EMI has announced the first CD release for the video game music event, Video Games Live: Volume One. No longer will fans be forced to choose between a crappy t-shirt or an overpriced program guide (*eyes program guide on the shelf with spite*)! The full CD should be appearing on iTunes soon (perhaps today), with the full CD release and bonus tracks spaced out to coincide with concert events in San Diego later this month and Leipzig in August.

So what's on the tracklist? Eleven games are represented, from the whimsical Tetris Piano Opus, to the moving Medal of Honour suite. Myst, Warcraft, God of War, Kingdom Hearts...hell, they've even got Advent Rising on there, which goes to show that your game doesn't have to be successful to make it on the Video Games Live CD...it just has to have music composed by Tommy Tallarico. The track that really makes the disc for me? Wendy Carlos' Tron Montage. Makes me feel like I am 10 years old wearing a cardboard Tron helmet all over again. Hit the jump for the full track listing and sketchy details about availability!

iTunes Offers Rock Band Soundtrack

Posted by Flynn De Marco at 10:31 AM on February 18, 2008

The powers that be over at iTunes have decided to cash in on the Rock Band cash cow. They have compiled all the songs used in Rock Band into one place on the iTunes store allowing you to download all your favorites to your hearts content. If you want all of them though it's going to cost you a pretty penny. At US$ 0.99 a song the whole catalog will set you back $US 73.26.

Finally, Pole Position Comes To iPod

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 1:20 PM on January 23, 2008

pole_position_ipod.jpgRemember iPod gaming? Yes, it continues to be quite the punchline, but publishers are still giving it a go, with Namco releasing Pole Position Remix via the iTunes store today. The driving game controlled with the (get this) iPod wheel is receiving nothing short of piss poor to five-star rave reviews from those who have purchased the arcade remake and taken the time to comment on iTunes. Klee3 says Pole Position Remix is "[the] worst of all the iPod Games that are available now" but razor pod writes "this game is hot so fun and not very hard to control (for Me) so this game is really fun." Looks like someone's having so much fun they can't be bothered to punctuate! Very telling.

It's priced at $US 4.99, which should make many of us thankful for more reasonable prices on fully-featured games via Xbox Live and PSN. Sorry folks who don't have a iPod Nano with video, iPod Classic or fifth generation iPod, you're out of luck.

Popcap Pops Peggle to iPod

Posted by Mike Fahey at 3:20 AM on December 19, 2007

peggleipod.jpgWell it's a banner day for iPod gamers, if such a thing exists. Along with Sonic the Hedgehog from Sega, that king of casual PopCap Games have released an iPod version of their popular puzzler Peggle onto the iTunes Store today. Sharing Sonic's $US 4.99 price point, the game contains all 55 levels, 10 magical powers, 75 Grand Master challenges and th two-player duel mode from the PC and Mac versions. The game's aim and shoot mechanic seems perfect for the iPod's click wheel, making me wonder how well Bubble Bobble would translate. If I had one of those newer, cooler iPods I would definitely purchase Peggle, simply because of the comfort I found playing it while I waited for the Orange Box to download over Steam. Of course I never played it again after that, but I am a fickle gamer, dammit.
