Buy Soul Calibur IV For $50

Australian Post Posted by Logan Booker at 6:00 PM on August 8, 2008

sciv_norks.jpgEcoGamer's Anthony has once again sent us a great tip for those looking to pick up Soul Calibur IV on the cheap. We've previously posted prices for a bunch of popular stores, but if you're willing to do a bit of leg work, you can shave $50 off the RRP.

I could paraphrase Anthony's tip, but bless him, he's done an excellent job of summing up the details:

If anyone missed out or thought SCIV was too expensive, using a combination of deals you can pick it up for just $49.90. Even less with an EB Games EDGE card (10% discount).

EB Games started their 'Buy 2 preowned games' sale this week, and you can pick up Gears of War, Fight Night Round 3 and Bomberman: Act Zero which are currently not on JB Hi-Fi's trade in exclusion list. Then simply walk into JB Hi-Fi and trade in all three to get Soul Calibur 4. This is also a good opportunity to get Ninja Gaiden 2, DBZ Bust Limit and GRID amongst others for $50. These trade in deals end on the 10th and it is not known yet which ones will be carried into the next catalogue.

Buying Soul Calibur IV, The Cheap Way

Australian Post Posted by Logan Booker at 12:30 PM on July 30, 2008

sc_4_front.jpgSoul Calibur IV is due out tomorrow (if it hasn't already made its way to shelves on the sly), and if the idea of paying $100+ for this gorgeous fighting title makes you want to cry or throw pieces of chair at your dad, Ecogamer recommends you drop into K-mart or JB Hi-Fi. Both stores have the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game, with the former platform going for $79 and the latter $89.

If you're of the trade-in persuasion, I'd suggest hitting the jump. I don't know about you, but I don't want to pay top-dollar for bouncing 3D norks jubblies chesticles breasts. Damn.

Australian Stores Running Short On PS3s?

Australian Post Posted by Logan Booker at 2:00 PM on May 30, 2008

ps3_left.jpgReader Brendan says that a friend of his has had a great deal of trouble getting his hands on a PS3. In preparation for the release of Metal Gear Solid 4, said friend tried EB Games to preorder the console bundle. Not only did the friend have no luck with the preorder, but it was a no-go on a standalone console. Calls to Big W, K-mart and GameTraders were met with similar failure, with GT going as far as to say that the MGS4 pack may miss its release date due to shortages of the console.

So, I gave a couple of JB Hi-Fi and EB Games stores a call in Sydney and was told that they had units in stock, though EB Games said it was only a few and the GTA IV bundle was sold out. Given the success of Rockstar's title, I wasn't surprised.

Even though it was looking like there wasn't much to Brendan's rumour, I fired an email to Sony's local branch. Here's the reply I received:

Due to the success of the latest GTA IV and GT5 Prologue bundle offers, stock has been flying off the shelves and also, hand in hand with their success, we've seen an increase in consumer demand for standalone PS3 consoles. We're very aware of the demand and are working closely with retail to ensure good stock supply.
Well. Going by this response Sony might have some issues on its hands with some stores, but it's doing its best to keep retailers in supply. I know things are swell in Sydney, but let us know what the situation's like around you!

Condemned 2 Rated R18+ In Australia... According To JB Hi-Fi

Australian Post Posted by Logan Booker at 12:30 PM on May 21, 2008

c2_r18.jpgWhat you're looking at is a photo I took from JB Hi-Fi's latest catalogue. Specifically, it shows Sega's Condemned 2... with an R18+ rating.

Now, we all know this is not possible, seeing there's no R18+ rating for games in Australia - we're still waiting to hear back from the Attorneys-General about that one. If you're thinking it's a sticker from the UK or US classification boards, I can assure you it's definitely from the OFLC.

The OFLC database also clearly shows that Condemned 2 was rated MA15+. So what's going on?

It's a mistake, obviously. Maybe the designer who put the catalogue together thought Condemned 2 deserved a higher rating?

[Thanks everyone who sent this in]

How To Get Mario Kart Wii For $50

Australian Post Posted by Logan Booker at 2:00 PM on April 24, 2008

mariokartwii_left.jpgIf you're looking for someone to thank, don't look at us. Send your cakes to Anthony over at the Economical Gamer.

Get Mario Kart Wii for $50: This is a some what risky and unethical approach, but Rayman: Raving Rabbids and Surf's Up are both a part of EB Games' 2 for $50 sale but not JB Hi-Fi's exclusion list. So it might be possible to buy those two for $50 at EB and then trade them for Mario Kart Wii at JB. It is risky though because JBs exclusion list quotes "This list is subject to change at any time at JB Hi-Fi's discretion" and they may have already anticipated the abuse.
Anthony recommends you tell the JB salesperson you speak to up front what you plan on doing to avoid disappointment.

The full tip is included after the jump, and includes stores where Mario Kart Wii is being sold below its RRP.

JB Hi-Fi Trade-In Deals Incoming

Australian Post Posted by Logan Booker at 10:30 AM on November 2, 2007

aucash.jpgOz Kotakuite Alex sends word that starting November 5, JB will be accepting a couple of your old, stale games for a copy of a new, fresh one.

According to Alex, five PS2 games will get you a new PS2 release; two PS3 titles equal a new PS3 release; two Wii games equate to one new Wii game; and three Xbox 360 titles will get you a new 360 release. He also mentioned there are deals for DS and PSP, but he couldn't recall the details.

If this sounds like a good thing to you, then be sure to dump your old games on your local JB when Nov 5 comes around.

Thanks for the tip Alex!

JB Hi-Fi Battles Pokemon Infestation, Needs Help

Australian Post Posted by Logan Booker at 12:30 PM on October 31, 2007

manaphy.jpgNintendo Australia strongly recommends you get down to your local JB store and help combat the problem - just remember to bring along your DS and a copy of either Pokemon Diamond or Pearl.

From November 7-13, owners of the handheld and either game will be able to claim a free Manaphy character, decked to the... gills... with a special move called Heart Swap and a sweet-looking Cherish Ball - which apparently is only available during this sort of event.

According to Nintendo, it's all to celebrate the arrival of the ninth Pokemon movie, Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea.

Oh, before you run out, be sure to check for information on the specifics here. Or, you can just nag one of JB Hi-Fi's friendly staff.

Press release after the jump.

FFXI Wants Your Spare Tenner

Australian Post Posted by Logan Booker at 11:29 AM on September 17, 2007

Now might be the best time to get into Final Fantasy XI, Square Enix's massively multiplayer online RPG, seeing as JB Hi-Fi has the game going for just $10.99. True, it's sans expansions, but it's a miniscule outlay for 30 days of play.

Just don't get addicted. Or slay your mate over virtual property. Or play for 72 hours straight and cark it.
