Or more importantly, someone thought it’d be smart to make a Jumper movie game? Talk about slipping under the radar! This turd from Australian developer Red Tribe came out in February and managed to sink to the bottom of the retail ocean, escaping the notice of even the most hungry of crap game-eating sperm whales.
I hate to go all ghetto on an Oz studio but, damn, 29/100 on Metacritic? Official Xbox Magazine in the UK even went as far as to say it “makes you want to jump off a cliff”. That’s not something you can keep a straight face about and be proud of.
Publisher Atari was cursed with distributing the title locally. Seeing as I never received a review copy, or was sent a single press release about it, I think even the company’s PR smelt Jumper‘s fetid odour on the winds of disaster and consigned the title to the depths of bargain bins the nation over.
What is it with local devs and awful games? I mean, fair enough if you have to put out a few average titles to get some revenue in, but there’s definitely a depressing trend forming. We’re just lucky that when good games do come out of the country, they’re bloody fantastic.

Variety’s The Cut Scene reports that Hollywood based publisher Brash Entertainment, which in its own words is “laser focused on high quality theatrical based” video games for every platform, has lost its president. Founder Nicholas Longano is said to have exited the company after just a year in business. As The Cut Scene points out, its two completed projects—Alvin & the Chipmunks and Jumper—were critically slammed, each averaging a dreadful 30 on Metacritic.
newVideoPlayer("jumper_gawker.flv", 475, 287,""); While I am definitely looking forward to Doug Liman’s Jumper movie based off of the David Gould science fiction novel, I was a little iffy on the upcoming game for the PS2, Wii, and Xbox 360. It is a movie license after all, and while the spontaneously teleporting idea seems like an awesome game mechanic, it also seemed awesome in the relatively disappointing X-Men 2 movie video game, and that made me sad. Then I saw this trailer, and I am seeing a tiny glimmer of hope. A video game that pits Samuel L. Jackson against a motherfuckin’ polar bear? What could possibly go wrong? I’m sure we’ll find out come February.
Bourne Identity director Doug Liman’s latest film, Jumper, is due out in February of 2008, and Brash Entertainment plans to have the movie game arriving by its side. Based off of the 1992 science fiction novel by Steven Gould, the movie tells the story of David Rice, a young man who discovers that he is a “Jumper”, a person with the ability to instantaneously teleport anywhere on Earth. Starring Hayden Christensen (oh boy) as David and featuring Samuel L. Jackson as the leader of the Paladin organisation that has warred with the Jumpers for thousands of years, it certainly has the makings of a blockbuster action flick. As for the game itself? We’ll wait and see how Brash does with that one when it comes out next year for the PS2, Wii, and Xbox 360. More »
