The New York City-based developer of Homefront, Kaos Studios, has been shut down, according to a source close to the studio. It’s not clear if the shutdown was due to the performance of the game, the high cost of operating a studio or some combination of factors. We’ve reached out to THQ for official confirmation. Update.
Let’s face facts folks, quite often Australians get the proverbial bum rap when it comes to online gaming, particularly with dedicated servers. When THQ announced Homefront they were committed to supporting dedicated servers for Australia – so far the implementation of that grand statement hasn’t exactly gone to plan, but THQ has announced they are committing more resources in an attempt to support Australian Homefront players.
At its core you could argue that Homefront, despite its aspirations, is simply another shooter. With the controller plunked in my hands it took all of five seconds for me to get orientated – not just with the controls, but with the mechanics, the structure – thankfully the manner in which Kaos Studios attempt to subtly subvert these standards is what distinguishes it from the competition.
The North Korean of the US has been delayed by seven days. THQ and Kaos Studios’ Homefront will come to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on March 15 in North America after a brief delay.
Yesterday we announced that EB had an exclusive pre-order Collector’s Edition of Homefront. Well, turns out that JB Hi-Fi have a separate exclusive, with different collectables. Which one is better? Well, we’ll leave it up to you to decide. (Psst… the JB Hi-Fi one is better).
