Kazuo Hirai, Sony Corp.’s second-in-command, in line to become its CEO, will brief the media on the catastrophic security breach in the PlayStation Network. The news conference will be held at 1 a.m. EDT (2 p.m. in Japan). Hirai will discuss Sony’s investigation of the breach, its information management system, and the schedule for bringing PSN back online, Sony said in a news release today.
As of March 31, PlayStation users worldwide have donated US$1.318 million to the earthquake relief efforts. “While we continue to make every effort to help the recovery of the affected communities in the region,” Kazuo Hirai, Sony Computer Entertainment honcho, said in an official release, “I would like to express our gratitude to every single PlayStation user across the world who made a contribution to the effort.”
Having “successfully led the turnaround of the games business”, PlayStation boss Kaz Hirai has (as expected) just been moved one step closer to the top job at Sony Corporation when current CEO Sir Howard Stringer moves on.
