The comedy is a well-established film genre, yet few games get labelled as such. Indeed, rare is the game that can tell a good joke, let alone one that is based entirely on making the player laugh. Comedy in games, it seems, is tough.

There once was a time, before closures, before Lucasarts, when the name “Sierra” meant premium PC adventure gaming. Those days are, sadly, long gone. But they will not be forgotten!
Remakes/rebirths of old franchises can sometimes be a good thing. Sometimes. In Leisure Suit Larry’s case, though, no, it is not a good thing. He was dead at Larry 7, he was deader at the abominable and Magna Cum Laude, and now this? Well, this just looks like a big ol’ bag of shit. Really, a Mad World/Gears parody? No. Larry was fun, in his own special way, 15 years ago. Let’s leave him there with our fond memories, shall we?

It’s official. It’s Leisure Suit Larry week this week, and this week only, at Kotaku Tower. Between Al Lowe speaking and rumours of a new game in the series, we’ve had about all the Larry news we need. All that could top the week off would be some lovely pieces of Larry-inspired art. And…what’s this? Why it’s exactly that. Some of Larry’s lady friends, stitched into cute little quilts. Perfect to throw across the back of the couch or to hold in the deepest, darkest hours of the night, when only you and your blankie know what’s going down in your bedroom.

It is if comedian Artie Lange is to be believed. Appearing on the Howard Stern show, he said he’d just finished recording some dialogue for a new Leisure Suit Larry game, where he’ll be playing a character called “Big Al”. Totally unconfirmed by Sierra at this stage, but why would anyone make something like that up? They wouldn’t. It’d be far too cruel. Though not as cruel as another Magna Cum Laude, so here’s hoping for a real Larry game this time around.
