LocoRoco 2 Revealed In New Famitsu
That Sony Computer Entertainment is going back to the LocoRoco well for another chance at acclaim and fortune should come as no surprise. The game’s director, Tsutomu Kouno, has been chatting it up for ages and even SCEE reps confirmed it for a PSP release this year. Good then, that Sony got around to confirming its existence in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu.
According to details translated by 1UP, LocoRoco 2 looks to stick to the formula of the first pretty closely, with new music, new bosses and the ability to bite more things — that’s a bullet point, for sure — topping the list of new features. Following sequel evolution tradition, your Locos can now swim. Amazing how that always seems to take an iteration or two.
LocoRoco 2 Plops Onto PSP This Year
The creator of the original LocoRoco for PSP, Tsutomu Kouno, may think the PSP needs fewer sequels, but that’s not going to stop him from giving us more yellow blob rolling fun. He’s hard at work on LocoRoco 2, a game Kouno says will have “new gameplay based on physical calculation and crowd AI”.
The good news is that it’s due this year, at least according to Claire Backhouse, a product manager for Sony Computer Entertainment UK. It was casually mentioned as one of the games that will inspire PSP owners to think “Oh yeah, I own a PSP” in a recent chat with MCV.
With the PlayStation 3 entry in the series, LocoRoco Cocoreccho, little more than a glorified screen saver, we hope that Kouno and team have something interesting planned for the PSP sequel. Perhaps something that takes advantage of all those new PSP accessories?

Wanna work on LocoRoco Games?
Sony’s LocoRoco staff has put out a Help Wanted ad on the Sony Computer Entertainment site. The team is gearing up for another PSP game and is looking for a “game planner,” which would be something like an associate producer in English. The game planner will be responsible for the nuts and bolts of the operation: Things like, well, game planning, making the scenario, creating artwork and level design. (Sounds like they are looking for a LocoRoco bitch!) You can even apply online! I so bet the final interview has applicants sing that LocoRoco song.

PlayStation Store Update – Cocoreccho!
The PlayStation store updated today with a ton of new demos, trailers, and a whole new game that Kotaku’s Michael McWhertor called “unbearably unenjoyable”. That unfettered praise was of course for LocoRoco Cocoreccho!, the butterfly-powered LocoRoco game that is now available on the PSN for $US 6.99, a low price indeed for possible…suckage. *sighs* On top of the new game, there are demos galore, with Skate, NBA Live 08, Stuntman: Ignition and Sega Rally Revo all ready to be slowly downloaded for your demoing enjoyment. Top it off with a heaping helping of trailers from games like Devil May Cry, Ratchet and Clank, and GT Prologue and you’ve got a lot less hard disk space than you did before. Enjoy!
LocoRoco Cocoreccho! Hands-On Impressions (Beta)
What is LocoRoco Cocoreccho? To be perfectly clear, the PlayStation Network release is not a screen saver. It’s a fully featured sequel to the PSP blob guiding adventure game. But how does LocoRoco Cocoreccho differ from its predecessor? For one thing, you’re no longer controlling the tilt of the world and the adorable gelatinous creatures that inhabit it. Instead, you’re controlling a butterfly, one that emits a guiding pulse that attracts the blobs, helping you manoeuvre them through dangerous platforms. The only complaint I have about the game is this—it’s unbearably unenjoyable.
LocoRoco PS3 Dated For Europe
Surprise, Europe: LocoRoco PS3′s not months away. It’s days. SCEE have confirmed that the “game” will be available next Thursday for the low, low, looooowww price of £1.99/€2.90 (USD$4). Bargain? Hardly. Remember, this is more screensaver than game. So is it worth it? Depends! You’ll either be paying peanuts for a LocoRoco-lite, or waaaaay too much for a useless screensaver. All depends on how empty that glass in front of you looks. LocoRoco PS3 next Thursday [Eurogamer]

LocoRoco PS3 More Screensaver Than Game?
IGN is reporting that the Playstation 3 version of LocoRoco won’t be a game as much as a screensaver. I’m not sure why they’re saying that, because their description of the game sounds just like the PSP version of the game.
LocoRoco Cocoreccho! will include more than 200 of the singing critters on screen at once. To play the interactive screensaver gamers will use the tilt function of their SIXAXIS controller to gather up all of the blobs and shoot them through the level, just like in the PSP game, but with motion control.
The game will also include three mini-games, online ranking boards and a time attack ranking. The game is set for a Sept. 21 release in Japan.

LocoRoco PS3 Dated, Name Is Still Too Long
The PS3 version of LocoRoco, or Oiedeyo LocoRoco!! Boo Boo Cocoreccho! as nobody outside Japan will call it, has been given a release date: 21 September. That’s for Japan, but a western release can’t be more than a month or two behind. Also announced are some details on how the game will play. Instead of just tilting the levels like the PSP version, you take control of a butterfly, which can awaken the sleeping LocoRoco that litter a level and then lead them to the exit. Like Lemmings, then, but with incessant childish chirping. LocoRoco PS3 Dated [IGN]
