It’s now a well-worn adage that online, each of us can be anyone. You recognise an individual by their typed words and actions. It’s possible to get to know someone very personally indeed, and yet know virtually nothing about their daily lives. Where do they work? What city do they live in? How do they move through the physical world?
Hacker collective LulzSec spent much of last year causing chaos for gamers and video game companies. Among other exploits, they targeted BioWare, Sony, Nintendo, EVE Online and Minecraft.
Ryan Cleary, 19, was arrested early last week in connection with a string of attacks on websites around the world. He was recently released on bail.
According to the BBC, a 19-year-old male was arrested in Essex. Scotland Yard wouldn’t confirm if the arrest was connected to a LulzSec attack on a police website, but did confirm it was followed a string of denial of service attacks. [BBC]
According to their Twitter updates, LulzSec has launched DDoS attacks – either on purpose or as a side effect of a mass hack attempt – that has taken down EVE Online, Escapist magazine and Minecraft, proving conclusively that they hate everyone equally.
