It’s a frantic puzzle game with some neat ideas, but there’s something missing.

You move a coloured ball, which is submerged under the water filling half the play area. Other balls drop into the water at a steady rate, occasionally bouncing off the plank floating in the centre of the screen. If you touch a like-coloured ball, you’ll collect it for points; if you hold down the mouse button as you touch a different coloured ball, it will bounce off but you’ll take on its colour. If a ball falls all the way to bottom of the screen, the water level rises, and it’s game over when it overflows.

Things start fairly slowly, with just two colours making things readily manageable. But once a third is introduced, my brain struggled to adjust with juggling the necessary colours. It all gets a bit too frantic. Maybe you’ll fare better?

It’s a point-and-click adventure game taking its cue from the likes of Samorost rather than LucasArts. Screens are self-contained puzzles involving often elaborate and always contrived interactions. For example, to wake your brother in the opening scene, you must shoot him with your slingshot… but only when the fly is buzzing right above his head.

It can get a little obtuse, and you will end up clicking randomly on every interactable object, but it also looks quite lovely so you won’t mind spending a little longer than strictly necessary in its twisted little world.

Also, you can shoot sheep in the head.

Elona Shooter tasks you with defending your castle from wave after wave of creatures. The Duck Hunt element comes in with the way you have to manually aim by guiding the crosshair over your targets with the mouse. It gets quite tricky with the swifter variety of creatures.

To help in the defence, you can upgrade your castle walls, recruit henchmen to increase your firepower and hire various workmen to repair the castle, or add bonuses to your experience or loot collected. You can also level up your character, bringing in new skills, and shop for a wealth of new weapons and modifications.

There’s a Hardcore mode that autosaves to ensure you only ever get one chance, in true Roguelike style.

It all adds up to a surprisingly complex, rewarding and compulsive game.

In Another Chateau (did you see what they did there?) is a typical platformer/puzzler where you must simply get to the exit on every screen. You can run and jump, but most of the time the next platform will be too high.

Lucky you have a Crate Gun, capable of spewing forth an unlimited number of square wooden boxes. You can then push these around, stacking them up, careful not to topple them over, and create new platforms to traverse the level.

Also, keep an eye out for – not the princesses – but the mesdemoiselles.

Ignore the intimidating Japanese text at the outset. Fairune is simple enough to pick up. Arrow keys move you around; attacking a creature is as straightforward as walking into it; items can be used by hitting spacebar and cycling through your inventory.

It’s a maze game at heart. Your progress is measured by whether you can work out where and when you’re meant to use certain items to unlock new paths. Best of all, you ought to be able to finish it comfortably within your lunch break.

In Canabalt you’re on the run, across rooftops and through office buildings, smashing windows and scattering pigeons as you go. You run automatically, so the only thing required of the player is when to jump, timing your leap from one skyscraper to the next or vaulting over trashcans and air vents.

The only objective is to keep going without dying and see how far you get. How far can you get?

Sneeze is designed to show how rapidly the flu can spread from person to person when the appropriate preventative measures are not taken.

You are the virus. You’ve already infected one person and can cause them to sneeze – but only once per level. The idea is to maximise your sneeze by hitting other people with your revolting green mucus. Once hit, the virus infects them, causing them to sneeze and continuing the chain reaction of snot. There are ten levels and the goal in each is to infect a certain percentage of the population.

Now, please go and wash your hands.
