Or maybe I should have asked what movies did it not remind me of? More »
We have a confession to make. When we wrapped up all the new trailers unveiled at the Spike VGAs, we kinda forgot something. So, sorry Mafia fans, sorry 2K Games, and most of all, sorry dear readers.
Gamercenteronline begged and pleaded and got its hands on three screens for Halo Wars, the real-time strategy prequel still under a TBA release date for this year. One looks like a close crop of a Sparrowhawk that we’ve done before. Not sure what exactly is going on in the other two.
Loitering around the site I also found what they touted as a new Mafia II screenshot. You can catch everything after the jump
More Mafia 2 screens! Yes, that exclamation point was meant to be there. Mafia (at least on PC) was fantastic. Sure, it had a few problems (ie the cars), but that’s what video game sequels are for, right? So if the first one was a flawed masterpiece, here’s hoping this one’s just a straight-up masterpiece.
Illusion Softworks has the 50′s mobster setting nailed. The trailer for Mafia II has everything you could wish for in a mob game. A chatting at a diner scene where the mob boss propositions our protagonist, who looks a hell of a lot like a young Brando. Guns firing out of car windows. A guy begging for his life to no avail. It even has the requisite humorous body in the trunk scene. Set it all to some awesome music and you’ve got a trailer fit for a Don.
Well the surprise might have been ruined, but it’s still great news! 2K Games and Illusion Softworks have formerly announced Mafia 2 for next-generation consoles and Games for Windows. Once again fusing gunplay and driving in a late 1940′s mob underworld, the game promises a Hollywood movie experience with believable characters and a living, breathing city. “As the original Mafia was a big success, we are excited to leverage the power of next generation console technology to create an all-new experience, while embracing the elements that resonated with the previous game’s fans,” said Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K. “The ‘wow’ factor of Mafia 2 is definitely the benchmark-setting visual quality and action that you expect to see only in Hollywood movies.”
The website is up now as well, complete with the same screenshots you’re about to see riiiiight….now.
Seems Germany’s Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (ie their classification board) just rated a trailer for Mafia 2. Funny…the USK are in Germany. Leipzig is in Germany. The Games Convention is going down this week in Leipzig. I wonder if they’ll show a Mafia 2 trailer there. Hope so! I LOVED the first game on PC (seriously), so a sequel with cars you could actually drive? Great. Mafia 2 set for Leipzig unveiling? [GameSpot] More »
