As part of its press release outlining the 3DS’ massive price cut, Nintendo also provided more detailed release information for two of the system’s more eagerly-anticipated titles, saying Super Mario 3D Land (November) and Mario Kart 7 (December) will be out in time for Christmas. As will Kid Icarus!
I checked out some of the new features of Mario Kart 3D at the Nintendo booth today. In addition to looking pretty, partially thanks to Donkey Kong Country Returns developer Retro Studios, the 3DS version adds customisable vehicles, flying sections and “underwater driving”.
More from the Nintendo Q&A: it seems Mario Kart 3DS is being developed not solely by Nintendo, but as a collaboration between Nintendo and Retro, the team behind the Metroid Prime series. It’ll also run at 60fps.
If you thought for a second that Nintendo wasn’t going to bring Mario Kart to 3DS, than I guess today is your lucky day. For most of us however, the game’s biggest surprise is the addition of flying and undersea racing. Nintendo has also added Mii support and the standard array of 3DS features; Spot Pass, Street Pass and wireless multiplayer.
