Revealed about three weeks ago, Avengers Chronicles is the next series of tables that Zen Studios is making for its Marvel Pinball and Pinball FX 2 downloadable games on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, respectively. Here’s the first trailer for one of those tables, World War Hulk.
Zen Studios’ Marvel Pinball games have brought members of the publisher’s pantheon to noisy, flashing life. There’ve been tables based on Thor, Spider-Man, even Moon Knight and Ghost Rider. But the developer’s newest batch of ball-and-flipper action tries to break new ground by centered its themes around actual storylines. And, hey, we’ve liked this stuff before!
I’ve tried to be open-minded about what constitutes a sports video game, largely because the genre has so few new titles or competing products in a given year. Zen Studios’ pinball renaissance on the Xbox 360 and PS3 is one of the best values in downloadable gaming on consoles this past year. Never better than when it’s handling licensed tables — the kind you always wished you got at the arcades of your misspent youth — Zen returned this week with another four in its Marvel Pinball suite.
Should you be worthy or willing to spend 800 Microsoft points next week, this Thor table and more shall be yours when Zen Studio releases the Marvel Pinball: Vengeance and Virtue pack on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network.
A year and a month ago I sat in a hotel room in Anaheim, California, telling the folks from Zen Studios how much their Marvel Pinball series for Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network needed a healthy dose of the fist of Khonshu. I don’t recall making a pact for my firstborn, but if I did I’ll totally honour it.
On July 22, Captain America becomes the latest Marvel Comics character to get the blockbuster movie treatment, and on June 28 he’ll be busting balls as the latest addition to Zen Studios’ Marvel Pinball and Pinball FX 2.
The family that stays together for 50 years plays pinball together as well. Zen Studios adds to its highly successful Marvel Pinball series with a Fantastic Four table featuring Mr Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Thing, and… wait, where’s Spider-Man?
