Japanese cell phone carrier NTT DoCoMo has put its character DOCOMODAKE in an action puzzle Nintendo DS game. Yes, even a cell phone character that has nothing to do with gaming whatsoever is getting a DS title. It’s from AQ Interaction, out this December in Japan. Think of this not of an indication of DOCOMODAKE’s popularity, but the DS’s. DoCoMo DS game [Gizmodo Japan] More »
What is the number one problem with cellphone gaming? If you answered “the cellphone”, you’d be wrong. If you answered “the cellphone’s keyboard”, you just might want to plan a purchase today. The ZeeMote is essentially a Bluetooth joystick, a nunchuk-like peripheral for your mobile devices. We’re highly interested in both the ZeeMote more peripherals for cellphone gaming. And as soon as those peripherals include completely integrated PSP and DS controls, screens and libraries, we’ll be happy little cellphone gamers. The ZeeMote is currently priceless and due out next year.

We don’t feel that Resident Evil 4 director Shinji Mikami should have gone through with his threatened self-decapitation just because the Gamecube game got the PlayStation 2 port treatment, but someone simply must answer for Resident Evil 4 Mobile Edition. In all seriousness, the game looks pretty respectable for a 3D mobile port of the most attractive Resident Evil to date, but anyone expecting something better than a PS One-level appearance will be disappointed.
The demo on hand for Resident Evil 4 Mobile Edition was super brief, but the trailer running on the perimeter of the booth indicated that the game was very much in-depth. Boss fights, Ashley escorting, loads of shooting poverty stricken villagers in the face—it’s all here. A bit rough around the edges and features extremely purple “zombies” but not a bad effort. Just don’t expect a Gamecube in your pocket. More »
Marking the 20th anniversary of the series, Contra 4 is coming to a mobile device near you this fall – and you can be a part of it! Konami Mobile is holding a Contra 4 character design contest, which calls on fans to design a new character that “demonstrates the true meaning of the classic Contra game,” which if I recall correctly is either ‘Aliens suck’ or ‘The scatter shot supersedes friendship’. Submit a winning entry between now and October 1 and you have a chance at getting your character in the game, along with a game credit and a Contra 20th Anniversary designer’s award, with the top 20 designs getting a credit and a t-shirt. You’ll have to beat me, of course. I’m thinking camo pants, a tank top, a headband and combat boots. I can’t lose! More »
If you’ve ever played NetHack, ADOM or Angband, then you have a fair idea of what to expect from Dweller. It’s essentially a roguelike you can play on your mobile, as long as it has enough horsepower to run it.
There are two versions available: one with graphic tiles (pictured here), and the other with more traditional ASCII. Sufficed to say, the ASCII version stands a better chance of running without a hitch.
When you’re bored on the train, it sure beats the heck out of Solitaire.

What says mobile phone gaming best? Yup, a giant thumb! Here, a bored salaryman listens to the giant thumb telling him to download free mobile games. The giant thumb then attacks him. Brilliant.

Nokia is just pumping out the N-Gage news lately, trying desperately to get people to stop thinking taco and start thinking global gaming service. They’ve just announced that the N-Gage service will be available all over the world this November, first in the form of an application that can be downloaded and installed in compatible devices and later embedded in Nokia mobile gizmos right out of the box. New games revealed include EA’s Fifa 08, The Sims 2 Pets, Tetris, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour, as well as Crash Bandicoot from Vivendi and whatever Capcom has up their sleeve. N-Gage.com has been relaunched with a focus on the new service as well, along with a link in the upper right to reserve your player name, which will be the N-Gage version of a gamertag. I’ve already reserved Fahey, despite the chances of me ever having a compatible phone being close to nil. Can’t have just any jerk playing under the family name. Just one specific jerk. Hit the jump for more details than would fit before the jump. More »
If you had any doubts that the new Nokia N-Gage mobile gaming platform initiative would be anything short of a total success…hold on to them for awhile longer. Nokia has announced that Vivendi Mobile will be bringing none other than the world’s most famous Bandicoot to the mobile platform this fall. No one could be more excited to see Crash than Gregg Sauter, Nokia’s director of third party publishing. Seriously, no one. “Vivendi Games Mobile is one of the most respected publishers in mobile gaming,” said Gregg Sauter, Nokia’s director of third party publishing. “Crash Bandicoot is a gaming icon as well as a global powerhouse, having sold more than 33 million units worldwide. With its fun appeal to people of all ages and incredible graphics, the Crash Bandicoot franchise is the perfect fit for N-Gage.”
I’d have to agree on the perfect fit part, but not for the same reasons I am sure. Is there some sort of hard date when Crash Bandicoot stops being a selling point I don’t know about? More »
