The third entry in Monolith Productions’ F.E.A.R. franchise may be getting its big reveal in the next month, as foretold by a teaser in an unnamed Spanish language gaming magazine. The supposed name of that game? F.3.A.R. More »
You join us mid-way through our conversation with Monolith’s Dave Matthews, art director on F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. Part one is over here. This time Dave discusses the design choices they made regarding weaponry, what type of horror they’re aiming for and how it all comes together in their “Useability Lab”.
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is today’s major game release. Perhaps you still want to know more about it even after reading our very positive review this morning? I sat down with Monolith’s Dave Matthews at a recent media event and grilled him about what they did wrong with the original game, where they hoped the sequel could improve, and why he didn’t actually slate the expansion packs after all.
…and you thought your gaming chair was sweet. This was certainly the most immersive gaming display at the New York Comic Con.
Some titles may be trying to rework how people are scared in a video game, others, others are just fine with the classic scares.
When we first heard that the proper sequel to horrific first-person shooter F.E.A.R. was to be christened Project Origin, a warm, immediately bored feeling washed over us. We were thankful not to have to type out all those damn periods — damn you, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.! — but lamented having another dull game title to throw on the pile.
Thankfully, amid the sloughing off of Sierra brands at Activision Blizzard, Project Origin has secured its originally intended title and will be known from this day forward as F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. The official site writes that developer Monolith Productions and publisher WB Games have purchase the rights to the F.E.A.R. name, most assuredly helping its chances at retail. (We still liked “Dead Echo” better!)
Project Origin Renamed – F.E.A.R.2: Project Origin [Project Origin]
More creepy little kids, more long hallways with flicker lights, more stuff to shoot, Developer Monolith Productions just dropped their new E3 trailer for Project Origin on us. Project Origin is the sequel to creepy shooter F.E.A.R. This new trailer shows off some new weapons, enemies and locations. Stay tuned next week for our hands-on impressions of the game when we play through a chunk at E308.
With Vivendi retaining the rights to the F.E.A.R. name, developer Monolith Productions needed something unique, something catchy, something that’s not a four-letter acronym for the follow up to the spark-filled first-person shooter. What did they wind up with? Something that’s definitely not a four-letter acronym. What would have under normal circumstances been dubbed F.E.A.R. 2 will now be known as Project Origin. Memorable isn’t it? Wait, what was it again? Right, Project Origin.
Sure, it may not have the sex appeal of Dead Echo, but at least it’s better than the rejected Blood Let: Drenched in Desecration, isn’t it? Project Origin is planned to hit the PC, Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 at a mysterious future date. Try to remember the name when it comes out. More »
