Capcom is rolling in money — Monster Hunter money. The most recent iteration in the PSP franchise Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G has shipped over two million copies in Japan. Wowzers! The game just went on sale March 27th and has really helped power the crap outta PSP sales.

Where do Hong Kong gamers go when they want to play some Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G? McDonald's. With burger, fries and WiFi, it's got all you need for a MH meet-up. It's such a popular gamer destination that Hong Kong game mag Gamestation lists all the 24-hour McDonald's in the city for Monster Hunting. According to Spencer at game blog Siliconera:
Get a grip! Peripheral maker MSY has released out this officially Capcom licensed, enormous steering wheel peripheral thing called the "MONSTER HUNTER GRIP." It's for the PSP Slim & Lite and totally defeats the purpose of both the "slim" and the "lite" part. We guess it's to make it easier to hold onto your PSP during hour after hour of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G play. It'll also make it easier for you to look like a goober.
According to early sales figures, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G did monster business, selling over 670,000 copies in Japan at launch. That means the sequel out sold the original Monster Hunter Portable, which moved 512,000 copies at launch (497,000 individual copies, plus 15,000 bundles). The breakdown this time around is apparently 652,000 copies of the game and 17,000 PSP game bundles. We'll get official sales data later in the week, but with MHP 2nd G sold out at pretty much every store I've been to, willing to bet these early numbers are pretty accurate.
This morning, PSP title Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G went on sale in Japan. Around Tokyo, folks lined up early to purchase the eagerly awaited sequel. (Japan certainly loves lining up!) At the Bic Camera in Ikebukuro, there was already over 200 people in line by 9:30am. In Yurakucho, 200 people also lined up in front of the Bic Camera. Something like 400 people waited at the Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara, while at the Yodobashi Camera in Shinjuku, a whopping 600 folks waited patiently to snag MHP 2ndG. Keep in mind that a Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G PSP bundle also went on sale, meaning that it wasn't only Capcom who had a big sales day.
