This of course will keep the controls in line with the previous entries in the MH franchise. The game will feature a split screen mode as well for simultaneous co-op play. The Monster Hunter 3 Trailer from Nintendo’s Presser

Someone attending Nintendo’s fall presser snapped up this video-of-video of the Monster Hunter 3 trailer, which Bash alluded to in his liveblog. So the image quality is necessarily poor but, for those interested in the franchise, you can get a look at some underwater encounters with familiar, seafaring beasts, and then some surface-world hack-n-slash against dinos and way more exotic foes. Monster Hunter 3 by Capcom for the Wii, has no release date more specific than “early 2009″ for Japan and North America.

Monster Hunter Wii Screens

And so the natural progression begins anew. We see blurry shots of a Japanese game from scans of a Japanese mag, then a few days later, they get around to releasing those same screenshots for the rest of us. Looking pretty sharp there, Capcom. Thanks for taking the time to actually push the limits of the hardware. Plenty more at the link below.

Not So Excited For Monster Hunter 3 Wii?

It was assumed that Monster Hunter 3 was going to be a PS3 title. Then something happened, and the eagerly awaited game ended up as a Wii title. That we know. Kotaku reader and Kotaku Tokyo Party attendee Matt points out something interesting: MH 3 was ranked higher on Famitsu‘s Most Wanted charts as a PS3 title. (The “Most Wanted” chart tracks upcoming games that are, well, wanted by gamers.) The PS3 version was listed as the sixth most desirable upcoming game. This data was collected between September 4th and October 4th. The Wii version was announced and for the next two issues, Monster Hunter 3 was not charted. The game then popped up again based on data collected between October 19th and October 25th. MH3 for the Wii came in at twenty-first place. But don’t worry! Monster Hunter will totally do great on the Wii. The question is: Would it have done better on the PS3?

Nintendo Still Targeting The Hardcore

We’ve heard your bitching. Your moaning, your whining, that Nintendo have forgotten all about you, the “gamer”, as they chase the casual market, pants securely around their ankles. Well they haven’t. Discussing Nintendo’s scoop in securing Monster Hunter 3 for the Wii, boss Satoru Iwata says that the hardcore market is just as important as the old-folks-and-little-girls one:

I understand that some experts argue that our success is short-lived and temporary. So, we now need to make efforts to constantly expand the player base by offering services and titles that can appeal not only to those who have never played games but also to those who play them hard.

That latter group? That’s you lot.
