Japan aren’t just crazy about Monster Hunter Freedom 2. They go bananas for Monster Hunter Freedom 2. But until now, we’ve rarely been able to express that feeling to you in numbers that matter. Thankfully, Capcom have provided us with some numbers that matter. According to them, the game has now sold over 1.5 million units at retail since launch. Consider, then, that there are an estimated 6 million PSPs in the wild in Japan, and you see that one in four own the game. Or 25%. Whichever way works best for you. Either way, that’s loads.
Capcom have lost it. Least their marketing department has. They’ve announced that they’re going to be funding an expedition deep into some South American jungle, manned by the nutty Centre for Fortean Zoology, with the aim of recovering specimens and/or proof of giant anacondas, which are rumoured to clock in at 12 metres. Monster Hunter Freedom 2 gave the Japanese PSP a reason to live. Over there, it’s sold about a million billion copies. Half a million on the first day of sale alone. In the US, though? Nobody cares. The game was released today, and instead of long lines and big sales the first you probably realised it was out was when you read this. Anyone else keen on seeing what all the fuss is about?
