For starters, Roger Avary – who wrote the first movie – may not return. He’s, uh, busy. And while we don’t know which cast members, if any, will be returning, Carmody confirms that Christophe Gans won’t be back in the director’s chair, as he “wants to direct something new”.

Carmody then opens up on the course the movie will take, while at the same time addressing some of the complaints fans of the series had over the first film’s tone and depiction of familiar characters.

“I think we need to make it a little more accessible to the movie-going public”, he told STYD. “Silent Hill is not a blockbuster game like Resident Evil or the other games out there. It’s a connoisseurs’ game. It has its own, rabid fan base. They’re not cheap, these things. You have to appeal not only to the gamers, you have to appeal to a wider audience. So we have to get some story in there that helps explain a bit more. I think that’s all happening. Of course, [the story] is going to happen years later and the main character – without giving too much away – is much older and representative to the movie-going public which is in that age group.”

No, not the video game character. We’re still pretty good at discerning reality from fantasy. The voice of “Soap” in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, actor Kevin McKidd, tells the New York Post that “there are talks of a feature film” based on the franchise. Which is hardly concrete, but backs up previous speculation that, yes, a Call of Duty movie is happening.

It’s not really a question of if, but when, especially if Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward has more time on its hands to dedicate to side projects.

The main thing I walked away from this video with was a desperate yearning for a new Panzer Dragoon game. I’m not talking Panzer Dragon Saga II or anything — just me riding a dragon around a fantastic fantasy world, doing some stuff. There’s not a Panzer Dragoon fan out there that could watch the flying bits of this vid and not feel the same way.

There’s a new James Bond game coming out next year, but current movie Bond Daniel Craig won’t be participating. Instead, we get this guy.

That’s Adam Croasdell, who plays Walford’s Dr Al Jenkins, will also be playing 007 in next year’s Activision published, Bizarre Creations developed Bond game. The actor revealed his participation in the game during a recent interview with BBC Asian Network.

“Oddly enough I have just played James Bond in the new James Bond video game – how weird is that? I don’t know what the future holds, but I’m always into varying up what comes my way, trying new things.”

It makes sense. With Activision planning on serialising the Bond franchise, it was unlikely that Daniel Craig would be available for regular dialogue recording on top of his busy film career. Croasdell is more than happy to step in.

“I think video games and the making of that type of technology, being in a funny one-piece suit and being shot with 60 cameras, I think that’s sort of the future. Andy Serkis did it in The Hobbit, and there’s a new film Avatar which is James Cameron – it’s all that sort of motion capture. I think it’s the future, so I was fascinated to see how that would happen.

This week Netflix started mailing out the disc needed for PlayStation 3 owners to use the movie and television streaming service on their consoles.

Here’s a quick look at how the service works on the console once you get the disc. For now, you’ll have to pop the disc in to access the Netflix service from the Movie section of your PS3’s cross media bar.

The Netflix service is relatively similar to the offering found on the Xbox 360. Although you can’t watch a movie with friends online, everything else seems to be there for PS3 owners.

I actually like the interface a bit more on the PS3 than I do the Xbox 360. The PS3 version takes up most of your screen to show off the movies or shows available in a particular area. You can sort by a number of genres, including very specific ones keyed to your tastes, as well as look at your Instant View queue and browse through the selection of TV shows and movies just made available on the service.

Once streaming a video you can pause, rewind, fast-forward just like with a disc or downloaded movie.

While this may seem like old hat to Xbox 360 owners, it’s got to be a delight for PlayStation 3 users, especially those that landed the disc before the weekend.

If the test audiences hate the picture, changes will be made. If not, then everything’s gravy. How did the Prince of Persia screening fair?

According to film producer Jerry Bruckheimer, the movie is screening great — no, better than great. Greater than great! Says the producer, “What we found when we tested the movie a few weeks ago, and it tested extraordinarily high which surprised me because I always think these things are going to fail but this one turned out great; the women were a surprise because I thought we made a terrific movie for the boys because the girl is beautiful but the women flipped over this film.”

Continuing, he adds, “I’ve never had a score where the parents, there is violence, too, because it’s PG-13, but the parents rated the film a hundred percent with an excellent or very good which has never happened before. So it’s one of these movies that we know they’ll take their children to go see it which is a huge advantage for a film, that parents can say, ‘Hey, it’s cool. My kid can see it.’”

Even jaded old me must admit, that trailer looks pretty cool.
