Posted by Mike Fahey at 3:20 AM on November 21, 2008

Having seen success with the first novel based on the Warhammer Online MMORPG, Empire In Chaos, Mythic Entertainment and Games Workshop publishing division The Black Library have gone ahead and announced a new novel in the Warhammer Online series, Dark Storm Gathering. Treachery blooms behind Imperial lines and only a hearty band of adventurers - an Archmage, White Lion, Witch Hunter, and Knight of the Blazing Sun - can uncover the corruption before it's too late.

Warhammer Girds New Tanks With Heavy Metal

Posted by Mike Fahey at 3:40 AM on November 18, 2008

Two of the classes originally cut from the release version of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning are making their triumphant return next month, and Mythic isn't planning on letting them just slip into the game unannounced. The Dark Elven Black Guard and the Empire's Knight of the Blazing Sun are getting their own launch event, Heavy Metal, which kicks off tomorrow and runs through December 1st. For the duration of the event, players will be able to complete special tasks that earn them renown towards special rewards, all culminating in the ultimate reward - a chance to start your own Knight or Black Guard a week before the classes become open to the general public.

WAR Launches In-Game Halloween Spooktacular

Posted by Mike Fahey at 5:00 AM on October 30, 2008

Even a brand-spanking new MMO like Warhammer Online can't resist holding their own Halloween Spooktacular in-game events. Beginning today, October 29th, Witching Night descends upon the lands of WAR, bringing with it four new public quests and a live in-game event that pits players from both realms against ancient evil forces. Of course any Halloween event wouldn't be complete without special goodies, and Mythic tons of special items, exclusive titles, and special event-only cloaks lined up. As a special Warhammer Online twist, some items can only be looted from other players in Realm vs. Realm play, so don't get so caught up in the festivities that you forget who the enemy are.

Warhammer Online Doubles Open-World RVR XP

Posted by Mike Fahey at 12:40 AM on October 24, 2008

If you understood the headline you probably know this already, but it bears mentioning anyway. Mythic really, really wants people to kill each other in Warhammer Online, and not just in their encapsulated little battlegrounds scenarios. They want the conflict to rage across the open-world areas as well, and in order to encourage this they've doubled the experience gained from killed the enemy in open Realm versus Realm combat.

With the addition of the new region-wide and RvR-wide chat channels we have seen a marked increase in Open RvR participation. In order to encourage this trend even further, we have made an additional adjustment to the experience awarded for killing enemy players in an Open RvR area. Previously we increased this amount by 50%. As of today, that bonus has been raised to 100%. With this change players killed in Open RvR will now be worth double the experience than those killed in scenarios!

Cut Warhammer Online Classes Return In December

Posted by Mike Fahey at 1:20 AM on October 18, 2008

Empire and Dark Elf Warhammer Online players rejoice! Two of the classes cut from the game back in July are set to make their triumphant return in December, and your races shall soon have tanks! In his first State of the Game post, Mythic's Mark Jacobs announced that the Dark Elf Black Guard and Empire Knight of the Blazing Sun are both returning in a big way.

I'm happy to announce that in December, the Black Guard and the Knight of the Blazing Sun will officially be part of WAR. We have very special plans around their appearance and in our next newsletter we will provide full details about that exciting and rather novel event.

Having played a Dark Elf for a good 10 levels, I can say that yes, we noticed we had no tanks, and it hurt, badly. Soon those damn High Elf Swordmasters will get what's coming to them! (*hides his Swordmaster alt*)

Warhammer Online Armies Half A Million Strong

Posted by Mike Fahey at 12:20 AM on September 27, 2008

Calling it "fastest-selling new MMO of all time", Mythic Entertainment today announced that 500,000 new players have taken up arms in the battle between Order and Destruction since last week's launch of their shiny new MMORPG Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.

"In just one week we have a half a million people playing WAR online, and the ranks of Order and Destruction are growing at a record-breaking pace for a new MMORPG," said Mark Jacobs, co-founder and general manager of Mythic Entertainment. "We spent years working to provide players with the most stable, epic, and polished online world we could, but it is the players that have truly brought the Age of Reckoning to life."

Well done, Mythic! I have to say, the game's RVR combat has grabbed me. I am not normally a PVP type of person, but last Saturday morning saw me not only battling to take back the contested area near the Order starting point, but shouting rallying cries in general chat, telling people the forces of Order needed them. "Come on, ya cold-bloods! This is what ye signed up for!" I am such a dork.

Overlooked Warhammer Devs Get Their Due Credit

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 6:30 PM on September 26, 2008

We heard last month that a bunch of people were going to be left out of Warhammer Online's credits. Didn't seem like the right thing to do, especially in the wake of similar fiascos involving Manhunt 2 and Okami. Well, turns out Mythic are now going to do the right thing, and will be making the entire credits - which will contain everyone that ever worked on the game - available online. And not just for WAR; they're going to go back and do this for Dark Age of Camelot as well. The full statement announcing the move (made by the IGDA's Jen MacLean) can be found after the jump.

Warhammer Online Does Not Heart Gold Farmers

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 6:30 PM on September 24, 2008

Mark Jacobs, co-founder of Mythic Entertainment, does not like gold farmers. He will not tolerate them in his game, Warhammer Online. Posting on his blog, Jacobs writes:

I hate gold sellers/spammers. No, that's not strong enough, let me try again. I HATE GOLD SELLERS WITH EVERY FIBRE OF MY BEING. Ah, that's better. Now, why do I hate them you may ask? I hate them for a number of reasons, most of which have been detailed in various interviews I've done over the years. And now that they have taken their obnoxiousness to new levels with gold service spamming, I HATE GOLD SPAMMERS EVEN MORE NOW THAN EVER BEFORE.

Remember: Mark Jacobs does not like gold farmers. So what are he and his crew doing about them?
