LittleBigPlanet Meets…NASCAR?

6:30PM Luke Plunkett | Halo 3 on a NASCAR? Predictable. The Wii on a NASCAR? Understandable, since everybody has a Wii these days. But we’re struggling to find just where, exactly, the NASCAR fanbase and the LittleBigPlanet fanbase dovetail. Yet dovetail they did over the weekend just past, this GameStop/LittleBigPlanet racer finishing a respectable 5th place. Not bad for a car that looks like it was knitted by my gran. More »

Video Games Aren’t Real Life, Even For NASCAR Drivers

2:40AM Mike Fahey | Most of us out there who have played a racing game for any period time have fantasized about being in the game while we’re driving real cars, but the important thing is that we don’t act on such fantasies. Tell that to NASCAR driver Carl Edwards, who attempted to defeat rival and two-time Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson by…purposefully bouncing his car off a concrete wall. “I planned on hitting the wall, but I didn’t plan on the wall slowing me down that much,” Edwards said. “In video games, you can just run into the wall and run it wide open. That’s what I did, but it didn’t quite work out the same as the video game.” *rubs temples* Oh my head. How are we supposed to keep our children from setting people on fire when their role-models decide that driving at top speeds on a crowded raceway is a good time to see how accurate the physics in GRID are? GameStop Sponsors Race Car With Call of Duty Skin

8:00AM Owen Good | Watch NASCAR much and you notice the winning driver’s post-race genuflection to his sponsors can get to be a mouthful. So it’s probably a good thing Joey Logano finished 16th in last night’s Food City 250 at Bristol, Tenn. in stock car racing’s Nationwide series. Otherwise Logano would be like: “Well, Jerry, we just have a super group of guys on the Call of Duty World at War GameStop Joe Gibbs Racing Number 20 Toyota team. Just a great car, ran super good and I’m glad we could get a win for the Call of Duty World at War GameStop Joe Gibbs Racing Number 20 Toyota team. “I thought we was gonna run out of gas there at the end but I got a nice push from my teammate Jerry Jeff Jeeter McPheeter racin’ in the Peter Jackson’s King Kong The Official Game of the Movie … Number … 14 ..”. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Does NASCAR

1:20AM Mike Fahey | Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you living, speeding proof that Activision is officially marketing the living hell out of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. Presenting the Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Target Chip Ganassi Racing number 40 Dodge, appearing June 29th at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway to commemorate the launch of the game. This beast will be piloted by Ganassi’s Dario Franchitti, who is just pleased as punch. “I love video games and actually have versions of Guitar Hero that I play on my bus and at home. To have Target, Activision and Aerosmith on my car for the New Hampshire race is pretty cool,” said Franchitti. “Who doesn’t love Aerosmith’s music? It’s perfect for getting ready for the side-by-side, non-stop action of NASCAR racing.” In addition to the co-branded race car, Target stores will also be selling a special Wii bundle for GH: Aerosmith that includes 2 wireless controllers and a tour book for $AU 158.69. You might as well just buy the damn game before Activision starts marketing on you. Believe me, it’s extremely difficult to breathe in a full vinyl wraparound. More »
