Oh my god. This is not something anyone should have to wake up to. The hosts of NBC’s Today, Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira, Al Roker, and Natalie Morales take on Bon Jovi’s “Living On A Prayer” in front of a live crowd on the streets of New York City and somehow survive. While Roker is just a C away from rocking out on the drums, becoming Al Rocker, Meredith is definitely the ironic weakest link in this all-star rock band. Thanks to Dan for sending us the link.
Ubisoft’s cel-shaded first person shooter XIII—based on the Belgian comic book series of the same name—didn’t exactly blow back the gaming community’s hair. Despite a fairly big marketing thrust from the French publisher and a four platform push on the PC, Gamecube, Xbox and PlayStation 2, it would appear we won’t ever see a XIII II. Fans of the series will be thrilled to learn, however, that broadcaster NBC has picked up the property for a mini-series to air this winter.
Confession: I’ve never watched more than 5 minutes of Law & Order. But since I know most of the world is crazy-nutso for it, I feel it necessary to share the news on Law & Order: Celebrity Betrayal, a new game for cellphones coming soon for $US 6.99. With gameplay sounding a lot like Phoenix Wright (you collect clues at the crime scene, interview witnesses, and present clues during the proper moments of the trial) and a branding that, according to my mom’s DVR, is pure crack—who knows? It could actually be decent…for a cellphone game.
For the Law & Order buffs, here are all the details (cue that annoying Law & Order sound effect that’s played like 1,000 times/episode).
If you don’t already, you should start reading Paul Hyman’s weekly game column in The Hollywood Reporter. One reason is that Hyman writes consistently interesting articles, largely on the business aspects of games. Another is that everyone in Hollywood reads The Hollywood Reporter, but not necessarily the game trades. It’s interesting to imagine how they are seeing the medium through Hyman’s take on it.
That said, I think he’s reaching in this week’s column.
One of NBC’s shaky pilots this season is a show called Chuck. In it Chuck Bartowski accidentally downloads the countries top secrets into his brain… whoops. Of course now Chuck has to transform from computer geek to spy to help save the world, weekly.
