What’s The Best Painting Inside A Video Game?

8:40AM November 30, 2011 | Evan Narcisse

Some people think video games qualify as works of art. People like the Supreme Court. Like other great forms of cultural production, video games can hold references to and reproductions of other creations. A NeoGAF thread homes in one on this metacontextual aspect, focusing specifically on great paintings hanging on the walls of various virtual worlds. More »

What Cover Art Could Look Like

3:30PM September 5, 2011 | Tracey Lien

There are people who won’t buy a game at retail because of all the stickers that cover the box-art. Then there are people who think that box-art can be tidied up even further. Cue the custom cover art thread over at Neogaf, where forum members have taken to offering an alternative to the art that publishers have chosen for video game box covers. The result? Minimalist, clean, and aesthetically pleasing covers that we wish were the real thing. More »

ESRB Rates Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 For 360, PS3

5:40AM October 14, 2008 | Mike Fahey

Ah, the Entertainment Software Ratings Board website, a wellspring of information on upcoming, yet-to-be-announced titles. Titles like Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, which has recently had two new consoles added to its listing. Joining the PlayStation 2 and the original Xbox are the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, which would seem to indicate that the title will be coming to Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network. Of course just because the ESRB rated the game doesn’t mean it’s a sure thing, but further proof has appeared in the NeoGAF forum thread concerning the rating showing Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 on Microsoft’s PartnerNet, the closed version of Xbox Live used on development units.

Denis Dyack Tells Too Human Trolls ‘Put Up Or Shut Up’

10:00AM June 26, 2008 | Michael McWhertor

Silicon Knights bossman Denis Dyack is sick and tired of the Too Human bashing at popular gaming board NeoGAF. From the lowly rank and file to the very folks running the GAF circus, there’s nary a Too Human thread to be found without its share of detractors. Dyack has, rather unwisely we think, issued a challenge to the teeming masses at the board, an attempt to… fuck if I know, but something Denis says is intended “to draw the digital line” between the SK haters and the faithful.

Those on board with reinterpreted Norse mythology and cyber-gods and giant glowing bears? Say you’re “For”. If you think the whole thing stinks of puerile fantasy and bad art? Consider yourself an “Against”.

Public Safety Notice: Games PR Are Watching You Post

8:30PM April 24, 2008 | Luke Plunkett

Sorry, that was a little alarming. You, of course, knew that already. It’s not as if games PR types sit around in ivory towers getting their information from carrier pigeons and whispers on the wind. They find out what you like, don’t like and go “eh” about their games by, yes, trawling through your favourite forum, and reading up on what you – Average Joe – thinks about their games. Same goes for developers as well. Keen to hear more about how it all works? Please, hit the link below for the full 1UP feature, which features chats with, among others, PR reps from 2K & Capcom, as well as NeoGAF owner Tyler Malka. Chairman of the Boards [1UP][Pic]
