Remember those sexy Ms. Pac-Man Nike Dunks from last month? This month, Nike is previewing their male counterpart.
Nike isn’t shy about flirting with video game references for its Nike Skateboarding line of sneakers, having already released Dunks “inspired by” 720° and Skate or Die. And speaking of not shy… Ms. Pac-Man sneakers!
Last month we wrote about a pair of Air Force 1 Playstation 2 Tenth Anniversary shoes that Sony sent us.
Yes, we have a pair. No, you can’t have them.
Playstation and Nike are at it again, collaborating on a new pair of Air Force Ones to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Playstation 2′s launch in Japan.
The checklist of Nintendo-themed Nike brand sneakers gets a 1-UP today, with the first peek at another Wii-inspired shoe, this time of the Nike Blazer variety.
What is this? A mass act of adoration on the part of Nike’s design team? Or some strange, off-key marketing exercise on the part of Nintendo? It’s difficult to tell, but what is clear is that Nike are loving their Nintendo at the moment. First it was NES-themed Air Max classics. Then a whole range of Wii-inspired kicks. Now it’s another NES-inspired shoe, this time the Air Max Terra. It’s got a similar theme to the Classics – the subtle d-pad around the sole, the colour scheme – but it’s not quite as refined. Indeed, it looks more like a Mega Drive 2 tribute than a NES one.

Those tasteful Nike/Nintendo Air Max Classics from the other day? They’re just the start. Word filters down from the street that Nintendo and Nike will be releasing an entire line of sneakers early next year, all of them inspired by the Wii. Here’s some pics. You’ll find that, like the NES kicks, things are still being kept subtle (with iconography kept to a minimum), but the jury’s still out on whether these ones are quite so tasteful.NikeTalk [via KicksonFire]
The same kind of kids who dig sneakers are often the same kind of kids who dig video games. Means that we end up seeing a lot of sneakers with a video game theme. Sadly, as exciting as the prospect of a union between games and sneakers sounds (at least to those of us who waste too much money on both games and athletic footwear), invariably we end up with something that makes us use the words “The Horror” in the headline. But not this time! Nike and Nintendo are to be applauded for these NES-themed Air Max Classics, which eschew gaudy colour schemes and obvious prints in favour of something a little more subtle.
