We’ve been spending some time with Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus, the Vita port of the eponymous PlayStation 3 action game.
Team Ninja’s top ninja Tomonobu Itagaki sure has opinions! Lots of them. Previously, he praised Rockstar’s work on GTA IV and then crapped on his company’s Ninja Gaiden Sigma. And now? Now, he offers his opinion on Devil May Cry and the franchise’s creator Hideki Kamiya:
While Tomonobu Itagaki adores Grand Theft Auto IV, he totally despises Ninja Gaiden Sigma. And Itagaki’s own Team Ninja made it! From an interview with website CVG:
What did you think of the PS3 game Ninja Gaiden: Sigma? I’m told you won’t even sign copies of the game…?
Itagaki: It was no good.
Why’s that? I thought it was pretty good.
Itagaki: All you need to do is play Ninja Gaiden II and then try and play Sigma afterwards and you’ll see why. Despite the fact that it’s on a ‘next-generation’ console there’s no evolution whatsoever. That was made not by me, but one of my sub-ordinates who basically tried to copy the success of Ninja Gaiden.
Ouch. We thought it was pretty good! Elsewhere in the interview, Itagaki confirms that Ninja Gaiden II will never appear on the PS3, and if it ever did that would be “a loss of face for everyone involved.”

The weekly update to the PlayStation Store now has an official list of fine downloadable goods that North American gamers will be enjoying, starting today. As we mentioned yesterday, video editing software EyeCreate has joined the store, giving PlayStation Eye owners the tools to create the ultimate ottoman humping video. The rest of the content is fairly meager, with only one playable title, a PSone release, Spyro the Dragon joining the ranks. It’s a 341MB download and sells for $US 5.99 US. But wait, there’s more… stuff that’s not totally unreasonable for you to be slightly interested in!
Some add-on content for Piyotama, a free Halloween-themed skin, and the final round of Ninja Gaiden Sigma DLC has been added. The “Rachel Master” pack for Ninja Gaiden Sigma features five Rachel specific survival battles. It’s just shy of three bucks. Already released content for Spider-Man 3 gets a price drop.
What else? Trailers for games Bionic Commando and Time Crisis 4, plus Hollywood fare like The Water Horse, P.S. I Love You, and Reign Over Me. A trailer for the AC/DC Live at Donington concert Blu-ray release should give hard rockers a detailed look into Angus Young’s shorts.
Finally, Eye of Judgment wallpapers can now make your PlayStation 3 pretty.
That’s right. Nine! Of which two are useful (i.e. demos), one is cheap (a new MotorStorm car for US 99 cents), one is fast (Ninja Gaiden Sigma Speed Pack), one is worthless (NBA 08 tutorial), one is interesting (Eye of Judgement overview clip), two are mildly entertaining (Rock Band & We Own The Night trailers) and one is simply amazing (Iron Man movie trailer). The latest update to the PlayStation Store has gone live, hosting a digitally rights managed smörgÃ¥sbord of new content for PLAYSTATION 3 owners. In addition to new demos for Midway’s Stranglehold (1337 MB) and EA’s NBA Live 08 (661 MB), a slew of add-ons for already released games are available.
MotorStorm owners can pick up the Revenge Weekend add-on ($US5.99) which consists of one new track, five new vehicles (including a school bus!), a new online mode and nine new events. Four of those vehicles may be purchased individually for USD 99 cents each, if you’re so inclined. For Ninja Gaiden Sigma players looking for more punishment, the Weapons Master pack adds five survival modes for $US2.99. But wait, there’s more!
With the sunglasses and leather jacket, you could get the idea that DoA and Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki comes across as cold and distant. Like he’s just sneering at us, releasing bastard hard games and waiting for his next whiskey straight. But wait! Here he is. And he’s actually touching another human in a friendly way. It’s like the game creator is human. Or something. There’s good reason why he’s so pleased! That dude Itagaki has his arm around is a regular Dead or Alive finalist in the WorldCyberGames. The WCG 2007 finals aren’t until October, but prelims were held in Tokyo with Dead or Alive 4. Is that curled lip a slight smile on Itagaki’s face? Impossible! WCG Prelims [Game Watch Impress]
Tecmo announced that Ninga Gaiden Sigma (aka Ninja Gaiden Shiguma) has shipped 500,000 copies worldwide. Not bad for a remake of Xbox game Ninja Gaiden Black — especially considering the game has been out for a mere two months in Japan and about a month elsewhere.
