Oh gawd. This is a Fox News story just waiting to happen. Obsidian recently revealed all of the classes in their upcoming South Park RPG. There’s the fighter, the thief, the mage, the cleric… and the Jew.
Given the paper cutout origins of South Park, it’s no surprise that Obsidian’s upcoming RPG South Park: The Game would take cues from the most famous paper role-playing game of them all.
The news that KOTOR 2 and Fallout: New Vegas devs Obsidian are working on a South Park RPG seemed…odd. It’s a franchise you wouldn’t think lends itself to the genre, and it is a property that’s not as commercially relevant as it once was.
In an attempt to put the brakes on the pre-owned market, there seems to be an increasing trend towards concepts like the online pass, or game content that’s only accessible via new purchases. Makes sense for publishers, but not necessarily for consumers. Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart believes there’s another way — makes games so compelling that they want to keep a hold of them, instead of trading them in. Crazy, right?
This is not your out-of-the-box Fallout: New Vegas. This is Project Nevada, an ambitious mod for New Vegas that adds bullet-time, sprinting, tackling, cybernetic implants, and more to Obsidian’s desert romp.
Let Off Some Steam is a new section where we let you guys get something off your chest – it can be a vitriol laced rant, a sappy love letter to whatever, or anything inbetween. Send your magic words in this direction, and try and keep it under 600 words. First up is Tailblazers on how he learned to love video game bugs.
