Last we heard, Oddworld creator Lorne Lanning had inked a deal with Hollywood to bring his vision, sci-fi actioner Citizen Seige, to life in a CG flick.
Playboy’s Jo Garcia is one of us: A gamer. She first let us know that back in May and does it again in a recent interview. When asked if there were any games she regrets missing out on, Garcia answered:
While we all wait — with breath that at least slightly baited — for news of the new Oddworld game, Valve’s Doug Lombardi got in touch to tell us about the release of two of the earlier Oddworld games through Steam.
Poorly-spelled platforming classics Abe’s Oddysee and Abe’s Exoddus are now on the Steam network for a measly $US 9.99 a pop, with an “Oddworld Pack” featuring both games for $US 14.99.
For the first week, Steam subscribers can buy either or both titles at a special 10% discount. Which is nice.
Oh. Turns out my urge to exercise caution last week was completely unnecessary. Oddworld Inhabitants boss Lorne Lanning has confirmed that, yes, a new Oddworld game is in development, and yes, Jeff Braun is working on it. Lanning had nothing else to add, not even a working title, so your imagination’s going to need to fill in the gaps on its own.

Could be. Speaking at Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada, Jeff Braun, co-founder of Maxis, announced that he’s working with Oddworld Inhabitants on a new Oddworld title. Thing is, Oddworld Inhabitants cut out internal game development years ago, and CordWeekly, the university’s paper reporting on his talk, didn’t provide any further details on the specifics of the announcement. Are EA (or somebody else) taking over development of the series (they only published Stranger’s Wrath)? Is this meant to tie-in with Oddworld’s movie project, Citizen Siege? Who knows. And until we know more, Oddworld fans might want to keep their kickers untwisted.
