Wii fever swept the United States in January, another 465,000 units of Nintendo’s white wonder snatched up by consumers. Hey, when you’re selling that many copies of New Super Mario Bros you’re gonna need a Wii to play it on.
Nintendo’s New Super Mario Bros. Wii had a big January, following its 2.8 million copies sold in December ’09 with another 650,000-plus copies to Mario-hungry Wii owners in the United States.
The NPD Group has compiled fifteen years worth of video game sales in the United States, determining that Nintendo’s 2006 release Wii Play is the industry’s top seller, beating out Grand Theft Autos and Call of Dutys easily.
In December, New Super Mario Bros. Wii sold another 2.82 million copies to US consumers, pushing the game past the four million mark in the United States, according to the NPD Group. That’s the start of good news for Nintendo.
November will be a big month for Nintendo when all is said and done, based on the more than 1.5 million consoles and handhelds it sold in the United States last week.
The PlayStation 3 may have killed it in the hardware contest last month, but Xbox 360 software reigned supreme this September, thanks to Bungie’s Halo 3: ODST. The game dropped more than 1.5 million copies in its debut month.
