The Story Of Doodle Jump: Brotherly Love And Digital Snacks iD Software has announced a partnership with Fountainhead Entertainment to create a new mobile games division, iD Mobile. Id and Fountainhead had previously worked together on Doom RPG and Orcs & Elves.
Carmack comments, “We are operating on the assumption that mobile gaming has a potential for huge growth,” but one can’t help but wonder how much of the success of iD’s mobile games (together Doom RPG and Orcs & Elves have sold around 1.5 million copies) has to do with iD’s name and not with actual marketplace growth. In any case, iD Mobile certainly demonstrates that iD plans to do this for the long haul.

I was little excited over Orcs & Elves, if only because I watched McWhertor guiltily enjoy the game for an extended period of time at EA’s press area while empty, mirage-like Rock Band boxes called my name in the background. Now I’m excited about Orcs & Elves on the DS because early buyers will get a Limited Edition version that includes a free, Nintendo-approved stylus. My cynical side realises that you really should get something free for playing cellphone games that have been ported to your DS, but that side of me would never have played this game if it didn’t leave the cellphone.
At the end of the QuakeCon keynote Todd Hollenshead had Katherine Anna Kang, founder of Fountainhead Entertainment, take to the stage to show off a bit of Orcs & Elves for the DS.
After a bit of play, she announced that Orcs & Elves II will be hitting mobiles this holiday.
