The latest “Coming Soon” post from Xbox Live’s Major Nelson lists a June 15 release date for Mass Effect 2′s Overlord downloadable content, along with a playable demo of the game for the five people who haven’t bought it yet.
The comedy is a well-established film genre, yet few games get labelled as such. Indeed, rare is the game that can tell a good joke, let alone one that is based entirely on making the player laugh. Comedy in games, it seems, is tough. More »
Add one more game to the list of PlayStation 3 latecomers, Codemasters and Triumph Studios’ Overlord. The demonic spin on Pikmin gameplay features heavy real-time strategy and role-playing elements and will finally come to PS3s this Summer. The latecomer version of Overlord will arrive with the downloadable goodies previously released on Xbox Live Marketplace as well, giving Sony fans the complete experience… and just a year late!
Remember that Xbox 360 Overlord DLC I told you about that was coming out in November? Happy November everybody! After a string of several delays the promised free split-screen multiplayer pack, the Raising Hell expansion to the single player campaign (800 points) which includes new levels for each of the game’s five realms, and the Challenge Pack (400 points) with seven new multiplayer maps and Legendary difficulty mode for single player are all now available for download via Xbox Live. I was wondering why I saw two folks at GameStop picking up used copies of the game. Now I know, and knowing when your product is actually going to be available before issuing a press release is half the battle.
Overlord was a sleeper hit for Codemasters. Sure, it didn’t score 10/10s or possess people to take off clothes and throw them the game’s direction. But it had some nice RPG elements mixed with minion control, and a flavour all its own.
Codemasters has pumped out a patch for Overlord bringing the game to version 1.4. From the patch notes:
* Split Screen Select the Split Screen option on the Main Menu to start a Split Screen match. You can choose from any of the Slaughter, Pillage and Co-op Survival maps and change Time and Score limit for each. Maps include a new free Survival map called Rocky Race. You must have a second input device to play a Split Screen match. Player 1 will use Keyboard and Mouse and Player 2 will use a Gamepad. Use the “Config” tool to change key and button settings.
* amBX™ OVERLORD PC Patch 1.4 is designed to support the amBX™ PC gaming peripheral. To ensure it is set up correctly: - Run Start Menu -> Programs -> Codemasters -> Overlord -> Config - Select the Video tab - Select “amBX” - Click “Save & Play”
Is this the first game to officially support Phillips’ amBX? I have yet to see any other game declare its affiliation. I believe that split screen on PC is a rare treat as well in this era of online gaming.

Have you been sitting on your copy of Overlord for the Xbox 360, eagerly awaiting new content to stroke the master of evil lurking deep inside you? Did you already trade the game in? You traded it, didn’t you? Well go buy it again, because Codemasters is unleashing not one, not two, but three content packs for the game this month via Xbox Live. First off we have the promised split-screen multiplayer pack, which allows two players to battle simultaneously on one system and includes a bonus co-op map. Next we have the first of two premium packs, Raising Hell. This single player pack adds a portal to hell for each of the game’s five kingdoms, where you’ll fight the fallen heroes in order to save your loyal peasants from eternal damnation. Finally there’s the Overlord: Challenge Pack, which introduces seven new online multiplayer maps and Legendary difficulty mode for the single player game. That’s a hell of a lot of downloadable content in one month. No word on point prices for the premium content yet, but rest assured they will cost you money. More »
Tired of watching your grandmother hurl vulgarities at the television screen while playing Overlord on the Xbox 360 when all you can do is sit on the couch nearby and videotape her (creepier than I intended)? Codemasters has just revealed their lineup for GC 2007, and in the release comes the announcement that 360 Overlord players will be getting split screen multiplayer via free download in the near future, enabling the new feature across all multiplayer maps. Soon you’ll be able to put down that camera, pick up the extra controller and unleash hordes of evil Pikmin on your non-Live enabled loved ones just like in those dreams you have every now and then that leave you strangely warm and fuzzy in the morning. Just me then? More »
I miss my grandmother. Just before her death many years ago she had been teaching me to play chess, in exchange for which she agreed to try out some NES games with me. Unfortunately her part of the bargain was never able to be fulfilled, but the way she called me a little fucker the first time I caught her in checkmate brings to mind our beloved Old Grandma Hardcore. Were my mum-mu alive today and playing Overlord, I’d like to think it would go something like this, NSFW language and all. Old Grandma Hardcore…will you be my new granny?
