There Are Finally Clueless, Mean Girls & Pretty In Pink Games In Development

Seriously. If you remember, back in March Paramount movie studios announced they were getting into the gaming business. Today, they’ve announced their first three titles. To be developed in conjunction with Legacy Interactive, the first three games (all adaptations of films, obviously) will be…yes, Mean Girls, Clueless and Pretty in Pink. No word on target platforms or anything of the sort, but Legacy are in the business of cheap, disposable/casual titles, so anyone hoping for a sprawling, 100+ hour adventure based on the busy social life of Cher Horowitz will most likely be sorely disappointed.

Godfather Creator’s Son Sues Over Game Royalties

Anthony Puzo – son of Mario Puzo, author and creator of the Godfather – has begun legal proceedings against Paramount Pictures, accusing them of stiffing him over royalty payments he’s owed in connection with the recent Godfather game. Puzo says that a deal was struck between his father and Paramount in 1992, whereby the now-deceased series creator (and by succession, his kids) would receive a “significant share of the revenue of any audio-visual products” associated with the Godfather, but then accuses Paramount of failing to “pay the Puzo Estate the sums due it in respect of the Godfather game”. I don’t know what Paramount are getting at, but if I was dealing with the family of the guy who created the Godfather, I would not mess with their money, and I would not mess with their respect.

Paramount Planning Cloverfield Game?

It appears that Paramount has unofficially announced the official Cloverfield video game to the world. It all started when Paramount’s lawyers asked the owner of CloverfieldGame.com for permission to take over the site for their upcoming game. And then…well…that’s pretty much the whole story I guess.

The former owner of the domain was working on a Cloverfield fan game of his own and has now switched his HQ to GrayShotGame.com. He said that Paramount lawyers were “very courteous” and that he considers it a “huge honor” to have originally selected the domain name that Paramount acquired for their game. Also of note: it appears that no money exchanged hands.

To hear the tale we just told you from the source, hit that thing we like to call a “jump”. And until Paramount makes the announcement public, consider the news unconfirmed.

Paramount Pictures Getting Into Gaming

These days, all those Hollywood types so want to get into gaming. Next up to enter the fray? Movie studio Paramount Pictures! The studio is starting up its own interactive department to finance games and more directly oversee development. While the new upstart is keen on investing in all games, it’s especially interested in casual, handheld and mobile games because those types of titles cost only a few million — way cheaper than AAA Xbox 360 and PS3 games! More and more Hollywood types are starting to think that getting involved with games will help ensure quality game adaptation of their films. Says Paramount’s Sandi Isaacs:

Paramount Keen On Entering The Games Market

If you couldn’t tell when MTV bought into Rock Band and Activision and Blizzard were smooshed together by Vivendi, you should be aware: the entertainment industry’s big sharks are circling gaming’s shallow, krill-stuffed waters, mouths agape, jaws at the ready. And boy do they hunger. The latest to express interest in the industry are movie giants Paramount, whose Alex Carloss is both keen on gaming and also not afraid of referring to his own company in the third-person: Paramount is very, very excited about the growth in the interactive entertainment market. I’m sure you’re going to see an awful lot more from Paramount in this space.

I think he actually means we’re going to see an awful lot of Paramount’s money being thrown at existing developers/publishers. But whatever. Paramount: We’re excited about games [MCV]
