After Crecente snuck onto the PAX showroom floor he headed directly into the throne room itself to get a first hand discussion with the Kings of PAX Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik. In his talk with the guys they discuss topics ranging from Crecente’s socks to the future of Child’s Play. This is the fifth PAX event by the way and this year’s attendance estimations are going to topple fifty thousand. Rest of the interview after the jump.
I’m sitting in the cavernous main hall of the Washington State Convention waiting for Penny Arcade Expo 2008 to officially kick off with Ken Levine’s keynote.
Levine, compatriot and family (including in his parents) are actually sitting right next to me. They’re all very nice people. Hit up the jump to follow along as Levine wows us.
Odd timing or a reminder that while GameStop may not be listing the game anymore, Ghostbusters The Video Game still exists?
Tagged on every lanyard at Penny Arcade Expo was the game’s name (glow in the dark) but, alas, no release date… or publisher.
Today’s the day – the fangirls are out in force and the cosplayers are carousing in every nook and cranny of the convention centre. I’ve only been in Seattle for about four hours and already I’ve counted 41 utilikilts and 19 sets of cat ears. The favoured motif this year appears to be Naruto, with the odd smattering of old school Nintendo characters.
I’d love to post pics of all of this, but man friend has wandered off with my USB cable.
So here I sit in Handheld Lounge C, waiting for him to return (hopefully with beverage), counting up the swag I managed to accrue in the half hour I spent in the Exhibit Hall. So far, I’ve got 16 random scraps of paper (possibly stickers) and four buttons for games I’ve never felt the urge to play. If you’re around, come and find me – I’m the incredibly tired looking girl with the red, white and blue stars on her shirt.
There’s a lot to take in here and I’m only one woman – so help me out, readers. What games should I go after and what panels should I hit up? (Check the schedule here.)
Hit the jump to find out what it feels like to wait in line for two and a half hours. Why didn’t I apply for a press pass?
Just ahead of some related sessions at PAX, Microsoft has released a beta version of the game creation components for PopFly.
PopFly is a creative tool for making Silverlight (think Flash, only more Microsofty) apps and games.
This beta comes with more templates for different game type and other special features like scroll wheel support, sprite editors and tools to insert video and images into game scenes.

The schwag of Penny Arcade Expo includes an eclectic mix of PAX-themed giveaways and buyables. My favourite among the offerings though are these three PAX-wrapped consoles.
A blue, black and grey PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 will go to the winner and runner-up of this year’s Omegathon, with the winner also landing themselves a trip to the Tokyo Game Show.
If you’re hitting the show and not one of the lucky few selected to compete in the Omegathon you can still get your hands on some PAX-themed goodies.
We already knew that Bethesda was going to be at Penny Arcade Expo this week, but we weren’t sure what exactly they were going to be up to.
Turns out that PAX will be the first chance the public will have to play Fallout 3. Now keep in mind that there is expected to be more than 50,000 at the show, so if you want some hands on time with what many consider to be the game of the year you better get there early and be prepared to wait.
Bethesda says they will have six kiosks setup in their booth for people to play on and a number of developers will be on hand to talk to folks. The booth will also include what we’re told is a pretty sweet Fallout 3-themed Airstreme and the folks will be handing out Vault Dweller Survival Guides.
On Saturday Bethesda will be showing off a conducting a rather lengthy Fallout 3 demo in the Main Theatre at 2:30 p.m. Finally, on Saturday night Bethesda is sponsoring a Post-Apocalyptic Movie Night at 9 p.m. in the Raven Theatre. The movies shown there will be the ones voted on by the Penny Arcade fans. Currently it’s looking like 12 Monkeys and The Road Warrior are in the lead.
Hudson Entertainment is bringing their A-game to the Penny Arcade later this week… and their B, D and F game too.
The publisher announced their PAX line-up this morning which includes pinball WiiWare title Alien Crush Returns, based on the TurboGrafx-16 title; WiiWare’s Bomberman Blast, Fishing Master World Tour for the Wii, and Deca Sports for the Wii.
I haven’t had a chance to check out the other titles, but my time with an early build of Deca Sports left me thoroughly unimpressed. Now you can decide for yourself if it’s as crap as I thought. Press release and gallery on the jump.
Microsoft have finalised the list of demos they will be bringing along to PAX next weekend.
Those champing at the bit for more glimpses of Gears of War 2 will not be disappointed — there will even be a couple of Gears signing sessions, should you have any merchandise you need to boost on eBay.
Other demos we would class as ‘eagerly awaited’ are Halo Wars and Project Origin, but MS will be showing off their new Games Creation and ‘Mashups’ tool PopFly as well as more info on the New Xbox Experience.
It is those ‘TBA’ demos on the Saturday & Sunday afternoons, that have us intrigued, though. What could it be? Is it a new game? Could it be the long awaited Next-Gen updates of Minesweeper and Freecell? Have they finally gone mental and are bringing out a portable Xbox?
Exciting!
Full schedule after the jump..
D3 Publisher will be bringing Puzzle Quest: Galactrix, Naruto and Bangai-O to the Penny Arcade Expo later this week.
This year’s Penny Arcade Expo seems to be an interesting mix of announcements, unveilings and games that aren’t just dated, but already available at stores. It’s as if some of the publishers and developers in attendance haven’t gotten the message yet: PAX is kinda a big deal.
Full D3 break-down on the jump. The only thing on the list I’m looking forward to messing around with this coming weekend is Galaxtix.
