PixelJunk Monsters was a 2007 PS3 game. Actually, every PixelJunk game has been a PS3 game. Until now. Q-Games has announced that PixelJunk Monsters will be re-released as a free-to-play browser game later this year. More »
It’s that time of the year. Time for lists. Website Bits, Bytes, Pixels & Sprites has a list of this year’s most frustrating titles. They are:
Remember that PixelJunk Monsters update Ash told you about that would make the game a bit easier? Well it’s almost here, and over at the official PlayStation blog associate producer at SCEA Santa Monica Matt Morton has all the details. Not only will the update introduce three different difficulty levels adjustable as you progress through the islands, it adds the tower balancing from the Encore update to both islands, tweaks the tower menu, and adds support for YouTube uploads and XMB custom soundtracks. Oh yes, and trophies. Almost forgot to mention those. Well I did forget to mention those, but thanks to the magic of editing…Lovely!
The best feature of PixelJunk Monsters is the music. Composed by Otograph, the musical duo of Iura Takashi and Oshima Sachiyo, it’s the kind of music that you can start up on your favourite music-listening device and just lose yourself in it. Q-Games is releasing the soundtrack today on the PlayStation Network – a first for the service – and to celebrate they’ve posted an interview with the artists over on the Official PlayStation Blog, providing interesting insight into what goes into composing for the gamespace.
The Official PlayStation Blog has posted details on the upcoming expansion pack to the utterly charming Q-Games title PixelJunk Monsters, due out next month on the PlayStation Network. The expansion will introduce players to Toki Island, with 15 new levels, 5 all-new music tracks from Otograph, and a few item changes to keep things fresh. Along with the new details, the OPSB have posted a short interview with Q-Games President Dylan Cuthbert, in which he explains the true driving force behind the expansion.
The release of SOCOM Confrontation via the PlayStation Network this fall may have the mass appeal to be a digitally distributed “killer app” for the PlayStation fan base, but Sony has plenty of unique offerings over the next few months, some of which we are already intimately familiar with. Echochrome and Wipeout HD haven’t been lacking in exposure, but MTV’s Stephen Totilo goes hands-on with two more PSN originals, Elefunk and PixelJunk Monsters Encore to get a handle on what’s next for the Store.
If you’ve passed so far on Q-Games charming PixelJunk Monsters, perhaps the forthcoming demo will change your mind. It’s planned to hit the PlayStation Store tomorrow with the rest of the usual updates that North American PlayStation 3 owners have come to expect every Thursday. Q-Games prez let slip that the cheap and lazy will finally get their hands on the unique tower defense strategy game with a PixelJunk twist in our quick sit-down today, the details of which you’ll be reading about soon. Until then, ready the broadband connection and clear some hard drive space.
Kotakuite Tim R. loves PixelJunk Monsters. He loves it so much that he emailed creator Q-Games begging for a sequel or expansion. He soon received an email back from a Q-Games employee that revealed an expansion is already in the works.
Thanks for the mail! We are really enjoying the feedback from people about Monsters, it seems to have really hit a sweet spot. There should be some news about an expansion pack over the next few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled.
So there you have it, straight from the horse’s mouth. You can expect more tower defense excitement soon. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear any more details.
